Last minute trip to Maui

Folks, just learned that I may be going to Maui for a family thing. I may have one day to golf. Gonna rent clubs.

I do not have any bucket list courses to play nor do I want to spend more than $100 a round

I believe we are staying closer to Kanapalli.

I am a muni player, don't play overly difficult courses, and am not adverse to any local muni within a 30 minute or so,drive. Even a cheap goat track in Maui is glorious after the winter we have had

Kanapalli may be it for $10.

Wailua Emerald or blue maybe if you check GolfNow.

Wailua emerald is a lot of fun, with great views of the ocean through the trees.

Monday there’s a skins game at kapalua bay course but it may not be running anymore with the plantation under renovations.

Just went to Maui for the Honeymoon in November. Don't rent from the courses. Go to Jimmy's Maui Golf Rental. He has a great selection of clubs to rent and at half the prices of the course. Plus if you go through him, you can get deals on tee times. From Kanappali, its like a 5-10 min drive (We were in Kahana).

Also, Bay course at Kapalua is nice but definitely make the 30 min drive to Wailua (either course but the Emerald is better).

Also, PRISON STREET PIZZA is a pizza joint that you definitely have to check out. Best pizza on the island. Its about a 10 min drive in Lahana (sorry for the butchering of the names). Its a hole in the wall joint but always packed after dark and well worth it

I'm partial to Wailea Emerald and Gold, tough to go wrong with either.

If you're staying in Kaanapali, Kaanapali Kai can be $100 late in the afternoon around 2pm. You may not finish though if they're fully booked that day. You'd have to drive to the center of the island for The Dunes, Kahili or further south to Maui Nui to get a round for $100 or less earlier in the day this time of year.

If it were me, I wouldn't bother trying to get a round in on Maui if you are just there for a short bit with one possible day for golf. Since you are up near Kaanapali, it's a decent drive down to the Wailea area and the courses listed above. Kapalua is closed for renovation - that would be the one course near you that I would play for sure. I've played most of the courses on the island and enjoyed them, but 1) they are all expensive and 2) none are "remarkable" except the Plantation course. Again, spend all your time on the beach or in the water.

If you must play, then probably Emerald at Wailea is the choice.

Thanks folks. Appreciate the info. Not sure of schedule or timing. After this past month (most nights below -20 and only 3 single digit - days) The beach and walking in the warm sun has a certain appeal.

If you really want a cheap course, take the ferry to Molokai and play Ironwood Hills. Nice day trip, bizarrely interesting course, and I've heard it's around $10 now that the resort that operated it is closed. Locals maintain it now.

I believe when I played Kannapali Kai and rented clubs from them (older Nike clubs) it was in the $150 range - though I was the first one off in the morning in August, and I used a discount pass from the hotel I stayed at which was adjacent to it that knocked off a couple bucks, nothing major. See if where you're staying has any sorts of discounts with them.

Also, the Prison Street Pizza recommendation upthread is 100% accurate - it was the only place on our honeymoon we ate at twice.

Thanks to all. Turns out, my wife had preplanned surgery which was cancelled until a few days before trip date. Looks like the trip is out.

On the plus side, she's finally getting it done (waiting for a gall bladder removal since last June and she's starting to really get uncomfortable from the stones now) so she'll be ready for golf.

I am headed to Maui in June. This is good info to know.

Remember The Plantation course is closed this year for renovation.

They still have other courses in Kapalua next to the plantation that are quality courses.
