Analysis Paralysis - Rogue Fairway Wood Edition

I'm hoping someone can help me with some clarity on this topic. I think I've been looking too long.

I'm in the market for a fairway wood that fits my game. I'm fairly settled on a Rogue fairway of some sort because the Callaway Preowned site has incredible deals.

I'm typically a low launch, high spin hitter and I definitely need forgiveness. For reference, I was recently fit into a Ping G410+ 9* head (draw weight setting) with Accra FX 2.0 250 M4 shaft. I purchased that through Club Champion since I have some tax money. For my fairway shafts, I was fitted to the same series - Accra FX 2.0 200F M4.

What I'm looking for is a FW that is a reasonable step up in distance from my Rogue X 3 hybrid 18*. With inconsistent striking last night, I'd say I top out around 215 yards on this.

It would make sense to get something around 14*, but I could see going something up to 17* if it gets me 10-20 yards more than my 18* hybrid.

I like the idea of the regular Rogue 4W (17*) to split the difference between ease of hitting off the deck and better distance from the tee than a 5W. I hit both Rogue and Rogue SZ last night, but my swing was off and I wasn't getting great contact, so it was hard to compare. Subzero felt a little easier to get the ball launched. Is the regular supposedly more forgiving though?

Now it even comes to shaft confusion. The Aldila Synergy 60 Stiff just wasn't feeling great last night, nor was the Evenflow Blue Stiff. They both felt just a bit too wobbly for me in the tip, but "stiff" is usually what fits me best at 96mph driver SS. I'm toying with the idea of Hzrdus Yellow Stiff or Evenflow Blue Extra Stiff.

Can anyone who is smarter than me make some suggestions that will pull me out of the weeds?

Stupid question: why not just get the club that you were fitted to? In the short term it may cost more, but in the long term you will have more confidence in it and won't tinker/buy-sell as much.

Not a stupid question at all - I'm trying to play the game of saving money by piecing things together myself. During the fitting (which didn't spend a ton of time on FW), the fitter suggested I just keep my Ping Answer 3 head and put the Accra shaft in it. I have a good amount of trade in credits with Callaway preowned, so I'm trying to source equipment that way.

This is why I asked for input from those here who aren't as hard headed as I am. In the end I know I shouldn't try to tinker and end up spending more than I would have otherwise, but I just can't help myself.

The Anser were the smaller footprint/better player line of the G line (I think it was the G25 that year?). So perhaps start there.

But realistically, you should just go with what the fitter said. Going 14-17 degrees on a 3-4 wood is a big difference, but only depending on how much you deloft the club at impact and what your AoA is. For a driver, if you're at 9 degrees, you probably hit up relatively well and don't deloft, but thats on a tee. The 18 hybrid will likely launch lower and carry far less than the corresponding loft of a 3W. Ping, on their own website, has a 17* 2H equaling to a 5W. So, with that in mind, something around 15 degrees is probably just fine.

I can appreciate your having trade in value with CPO, but unless you have already sold/returned your clubs there, then just sell them on the BST, make some more money, and get the club you were fitted for.

Because at the end of the day, you're eventually going to buy that shaft and put it in a head, so just do that now.

Agreed. I’ve definitely overthought it.

I’ll go the smart route and just get the recommended shaft first. If it comes down to it, I’ll tinker with heads later to see what works best with the shaft.

You should do what you want. I would say the Rogue 4 wood is an excellent choice. I like that club’s look and it gets strong reviews from a wide range of players. About as forgiving as it gets. If you try it and it spins way too much, you could go with the SZ head. Supposedly the standard is easier to play but I also have seen reviews in which the SZ was the higher launcher. I don’t really chase low spin in fairways as it is all about control.

I would expect a 17 degree fairway wood and its longer shaft will get you that 10-20 yards over the hybrid. For me, I can always hit a fairway wood longer than a hybrid of the same loft. I often mess around with a 7 wood in that 20-21 degree range.

Which of the shaft options did you wind up with? I'm debating between the even flow and the Yellow? Demoing them is unfortunately not an option

I ended up going 4w with evenflow blue stiff. So far I’ve enjoyed it and can’t complain. I have noticed that I get better contact if I concentrate on making a smooth transition, which is not my normal.
