  • Shank, I'm in your same boat re: VHS. Mine wouldn't work even if I had a VCR. I think I got it when I was 13, and the ice machine scene was viewed one too many times.

FYI, not long ago, I was able to kind of piece it together using various YouTube vids others had uploaded.

I remeber my first copy was taped off a free HBO weekend, so it had advertising scrolling across the bottom quite often. I bought a copy on eBay several years ago (maybe more than several). I think that is the one I found. We had VHS tapes in about three different buildings and now I don’t remeber where I ended up putting it.

Jenkins was a great writer. He got a little cranky in his later years....but who doesn’t?

Still, having a job that paid you to go to golf tournaments for 60 years; Not a bad gig.

Dead Solid Perfect (the movie) needs another run on HBO.

I thought I read he wanted on his tombstone.

" I knew this would happen."

I wish I could have had a bunch of beers with him. Lucky to have grown up with him writing in the Washington Post.

Loved his comment about Goat Hills when they were razing it for development. The bulldozers finally proved it was possible to take a divot.

Talented guy, rare in the current world of sports “journalism” which usually means writing about what some dumb athlete posted on their twitter or instagram account. Jenkins was a professional.

Smoked and drank (I think) pretty much his entire adult life. Almost 90 is impressive. Godspeed, sir.

I can’t stand Jenkins even since his bald face racist comments a dozen years ago. Quit Golf Digest because of it.

**** I honestly thought Jenkins died 15 years ago
  • I've been writing posts all day for you people, I'm gonna write this one for myself:

Do you think I should switch to a heel-shafted putter? I read somewhere that no great putter ever used a center shaft.

I will not speak ill of the dead.

I never read more than a few sentences of his articles.

I just know he disliked Tiger for some reason.

    That is all I know.

Lots of golf articles from the 1970s and 1980s from the majors to a World Match Play in London to the Skins Game.

I’m so ashamed of myself, I can’t remember. Something to the effect of, “yeah that Hogan guy wasn’t too bad”?

After looking at some of these past articles ... this guy must had known the right people because those are not very good and poorly written. He certainly was no Jim Murray or Rick Reilly.

    Yep.

Then, "Hogan was a better player than he was a putter." Then, Smitheren scolding Grover for playing slowly. Man, I miss that movie. Grover trying to pick up girls in the bar talking about the move from hickory to steel shafts!

He once took $6 off of Hogan in a $2 Nassau.

In his later years I always tried to see if I could find anything golf, anything at all, where he didn’t mention Hogan. I think one time, out of a lot of stuff.

I don’t think Jenkins disliked TW, he disliked the PGA Tour selling out for TW.

Everyone has a God-given right to like or dislike Dan Jenkins.

Somehow, Dan Jenkins is not afforded this right to like or dislike TW.

Better than Spieth’s ‘15 finish? Schwartzel is the first that comes to mind.

    ^^^

    Strong disagree, haha!

But, surely there are at least ten more that come to your mind, because you said "no way" was JS in 2015 in the top 10. It certainly couldn't be 11th, then.

What are the others besides....Charl Schwartzel, is it?

There are worst columnist out there than her. She was pretty thoughtful a couple of years ago but has fallen into the trap of the “hot take” like most other sports columnist have which is just a reflection of what the industry has become in general.
