Bradley Hughes Drill Series

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done Bradley Hughes drill series. Its a progressive teaching series where 8 separate drills are completed in order to build a good swing. Brads philosophy has some similarities with Lag Erickson's teaching. However, I don't think there is a ton of emphasis on super slotting. I seen Brad's YouTube videos and he has some good ideas. I also seen some parts of the drill series videos on line. I would be interested if anyone has done the drills and more importantly had success. Thanks for any feedback.

Have not been through the drill sequence but know enough to highly recommend. Brad is a great guy with an incredible knowledge of the golf swing and experience and connections at the highest level of the game. He starts with impact and works backwards to eventually find your best backswing to support it. The game’s greats all had many similar impact conditions but quite a variety of BSs.

We’ve had some interesting conversations regarding Hogan over the years.

Me and a buddy drove over and spent a day with him this past summer. Spent the AM going thru his drills and then played in the afternoon with him and some range follow up post round. Guy flat out knows his stuff, Nothing strange, just based on the commonalities of the greatest players. If you want to start "cheap" he sells an e book for $10-20 that walks thru his swing philosophies. If you can get to Greenville SC its well worth it, if not would not hesitate to do his online series. Its expensive but last I checked it involved a lot of back and forth to make sure you are doing it correctly so you are getting 1 on 1 .

Brendon Todd was afraid of a big right miss. He was told to shut the club face half way down and just rotate by his former coach. That got him in big trouble and the miss got even bigger. I got an online lesson from him recently and basically said that all this popular rotation stuff isn't what the golf swing is. I was powering with the left hip from the top (spinning) and the club would get stuck under late. The drill for me is using a board to feel the pressure on the insides of the feet and let the arms fall first then rotate later. It's just a drill to use while practicing then swing away on the course. My iron play improved right away and was throwing darts in a 30mph wind. I can't wait until the golf season starts again.

I got the downunder board and I'm a big fan. I stopped using the wood because it was annoying to carry around and it shed. I use the downunder board to warm up and to hit balls with before I play, and then when I go play my legs feels really stable and it's the purest I've ever hit it. The stable feeling it puts in the legs after using it works really well. I have both sizes of the downunder board. i prefer the smaller white one, but i do use the larger black one with the 5 iron.

I prefer the downunderboard, yes. my issue with my piece of wood was that since it’s heavier i would get stuck on it and would have a hard time pivoting around it. i feel like i can make a fuller swing with the white downunderboard. and again, after two splinters and it shedding in my car, i didnt like carrying the wood around.

I used the watch bradley hughes on youtube all the time. He is very opposed to steep swings. in one of his most popular videos, he straight up says "the backswing doesnt matter". i brought that philosophy to these forums and was persecuted so badly i basically stopping watching the videos and started working with an instructor who puts a lot of thought into the backswing and the angles it creates. The results are mixed so far but im working hard on it. Like many, I struggle with an over the top move and an open clubface at the top of the swing. my new instructor has me taking the club outside the hands. its very hard for me to get back to the ball this way and not completely smother it because the face feels so hooded to me. work in progress tho

Bradley, and many others, are correct, as are those holding fast that "proper" back swings are required to have a good strike upon the ball. If impact strikes are sound how you arrive there, via taking it back first, is not all that important. Even Monte seems to somewhat agree with premise that impact is king.

He sells an impact training device which says all you need to do is to "make some sort of decent back swing" and proceeds to show how the device addresses downswing faults. The intention of impact rules regardless of where we are, or should be, on the way back- it makes no difference if one knows how to use the ground. It's a good training aid for beginners.

Too bad you were persecuted, no need for it. A host of options are available going back, including yours.
