Best trips to play AND see an event?

Just got back from a week down around Orlando with the buddies, and we had an absolute blast. Now as young professionals, this is the first we've gotten a decent group of guys together for a trip.

We started at Highlands Reserve and Eagle Creek, moved on to Crooked Cat and Panther Creek at OCN, finished at Lake Buena Vista since we stayed there (plus a bonus 9 one night). We mixed in 2 days walking around the Arnold Palmer Invitational. We are all scattered from D.C. to NYC, so the 80 degree sunny weather was really the cherry on top.

So now we sit at our desks and group chat about how much we loathe being back at work; And start planning for next year.

Outside of the Majors, what are some must see events that have good golf nearby? There's not a whole lot of criteria, although it would be nice for us all to have a good reason to escape the northeast in the colder months. Lots of compliments on the tan today.

Thanks Guys!

This was the first to come up today, and I think we're going to move on that while we're still young. Just thought I'd see what other ideas are out there. Appreciate it, regardless!

Heritage at Harbour Town. Plenty of really good golf nearby, fantastic party scene at the tournament, warm spring weather in the lowcountry.

Having done this several times, this is a pretty easy one to get golf in and hang out at the tourney. Tons of courses nearby, from pricey to budget, so no long commutes and they won’t be packed. Always had a great time, very relaxed atmosphere. Mix of a crowd too, can take it easy or party pretty hard.

I would recommend renting a house in Sea Pines itself if you do this.

I vacationed on HHI a few times growing up and I've been around the Country Club of Hilton Head and Palmetto Dunes. We stayed on the north side of the island, I can totally see it being worth staying in Sea Pines for Heritage. Unfortunately i think the lack of star power (usually following up API and The Players) is going to be a tougher sell for the boys, but it's on my radar. Thanks!

I always loved going to the Memorial. Solid golf in the area. Great field. Convenient to get to Columbus from East Coast locales.

BMW Championship. It stops in Chicago about every other year. Great field (top 50 players in fed ex up). Obviously, plenty to do in the city, but also a ton of really solid public golf courses.
  • Palm Springs for the Desert Classic seems worthy of consideration. I've never been to the tournament, but there's a dizzying selection of courses to play, and there are certainly worse places to visit in mid-January.

How bout right now in Scottsdale. Great golf, great weather, and all the MLB spring training games going on to catch when you’re not playing golf. Good times.

I was going to make the same spring training suggestion (AZ or FL), but I thought he meant PGA Tour event when reading the post. Good Suggestion.

+1 for Scottsdale. My group did it a few years ago the same week of the Waste Mgmt Open. We stayed in Phoenix for five days, which is a little cheaper and played four rounds and went to the WM Open, and every night there was something to do. We went another time in March and caught some Spring training baseball (White Sox vs Cubs) in between our rounds and that was a ton of fun also. The stadiums they play in for what are essentially scrimmage games are huge!

Tampa would be another great choice during the Valspar. You could do Streamsong if it’s in your budget and catch Tiger and crew as well.

I took “event” as anything else (concerts ie. Coachella, sports, etc) My bad if he meant PGA Tour event.

The original thought was to package it with a PGA tour event. We were all ball players at one point so spring training definitely peaks the interest as well. I think we might take the pass on coachella though image/cheesy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cheesy:' />
