Trail heel lifting on downswing transition

Hi everyone

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Would love to hear your expert thoughts/tips/comments on my swing video – DTL driver. Here is a link to my swing. Apologies the camera is a bit far away, but you should still be able to see everything, especially on a phone.

Edit: Here is another video of 8-iron DTL, slightly better angle and quality:

Quite a long post, I know, but I have attempted to put down my own analysis first as I have been thinking about this for some time!

I think I have a decent enough backswing, but this is all undone by my very first move in downswing transition, which is a lifting of the right/trail heel and a movement of the right/trail hip up and towards the golf ball, which looks to me like it causes:

1. My right/trail elbow to rotate internally, which has the effect of the steepening the shaft on the downswing

2. Because of the steepening of the shaft, the only way for the club to come from the inside is by last-second compensations, e.g., raising of the hands, standing up (i.e., EE)

3. Because my right hip gets in the way, the only way for me to get through the swing is to stand up out of the shot (i.e., EE)

I am a 6 HCP and my normal flight is either straight or a slight fade, although with the driver, there can be some pretty big misses out right. Mishits on my driver are on the heel. When my timing is right, I can shoot in the low 70s but when it is off, it can get close to 90!

I really think the first movement in the downswing transition makes it very difficult for me to shallow out, and needless to say, my swing (especially with the driver) just feels extremely laboured and not liberal, and I guess because my right hip basically gets in the way of my right elbow. I may not even know what a proper shallowed-out downswing feels like

I would appreciate your thoughts in relation to (although not limited to) the cause of the right/trail hip lifting on the downswing transition. Is there a cause, or is it more a symptom of something else in the swing? I feel that it may be a balance/body weight/fitness issue as sometimes I feel like as I get to the top of my backswing, my body weight/torso starts leaning towards the ball, and my right/trail heel must lift up in order to not fall over. It is almost like my weight goes from my right heel to the toes. I have also tried the “zipper away drill”, but again this is almost impossible to do when my right/trail heel is in the air. Or perhaps I have not persevered with it enough!

Thank you in advance!

The foot thing is pretty noticeable, not quite sure if it would cause all of the problems in your swing though.

What I notice the most is that your height changes during your backswing. I remember watching a george gankas interview, and I would reck a guess that you are putting more weight on your heels in your set up to try to help the right foot thing. What this actually does is then causes you to compensate during your swing by moving more onto your toes/leaning over more.

I would try matching your height during set up to your height at the top of your swing, and see if that makes any difference. Or vice versa.
