Nothing like sex and alcohol to ruin a nice day of golf. Played at a lovely, high-end golf course in the Phoenix area last week. Three of us from the Boston area plus a guy who joined us from Michigan. Nice day, three of us whacking the ball all over with my young nephew playing beautifully.

First nine, we moved along nicely behind a foursome. Then, gradually, things slowed down. We started seeing more of the group ahead of us, and seeing some unusual behavior. Two men, two much younger women, both of whom liked to dance and jump and run around. One, a blonde, slipped and fell in a bunker. Also became clear that the two young ladies had rarely, if ever, played golf. One guy was very good at giving lessons to the blonde with his hands kindly showing her how to move her hips. And hey, he was only about twice as old as she was.

At the fifteenth hole, there's a party going at the green, with the cart girl joining in the dancing. We wait around for the cavorting to finish. More waiting and watching on the sixteenth. At the seventeenth tee, we catch up with them. No groups in sight ahead of them. The older guy giving lessons to the blonde had the decency to apologize for his slow play. After he left, the cart girl then reported that he was a member. She then added up the tab for all the food and alcohol he bought from her--over $250. And the alcohol consumption was quite evident as we waited. And waited. The blonde kept running around, to and from the cart, then swinging and missing, while her teacher kept trying to show her.

They get to 18. Lots of water before the green. The blonde swings about five times until she falls flat on her a**. The teacher hits one in the water, throws his club and hits the cart, then throws his hands in the air, making a dramatic scene in front of his lady love. Then he hits another one in the water. More swinging and missing from the blonde. We waited about twenty minutes to hit our second shots, with people backing up behind us.

We get back to the clubhouse and the guys handling the cars were talking about how messed up they were. The good news is that they refunded our money, since we'd played there before.

Absolutely astounding display of hormones, stupidity, and complete indifference to other golfers--from a member, no less. A couple of beers is fine. But they had enough booze to float a boat. And there has to be an easier and cheaper way for old guys to bed young women. None of us had seen anything quite like it, and hope I won't again.

I'm thinking it was BJ's at the turn!

It's almost funny to read, but if I encountered that sort of behaviour on the course, I'd be furious as well. Good that the course refunded you, however.

At least they stayed at a distance from your group. A couple of seasons ago I made the turn at a semi-private course. At the snackbar checkout, a half-looped local was saying silly things to a female bartender young enough to be his granddaughter.

I interrupted to buy a Gatorade, and local yokel objected to me butting in. An exchange of harsh words followed.

When I threatened to report him to his wife, everyone started laughing - including the barmaid. I took my Gatoraid and left.

I would have asked to play through.

One of my buddies was a member at a club, and they had just hired a young lady to tend the bar, beverage carts, etc. All of the guys hanging around the bar chatted her up, loudly made grand proclamations, flirted with her like crazy, etc. It was sickening really...she might have been 20. These guys were all 40+.

So my buddy, who’s never met a stranger, starts telling me that these guys are all trying to grandstand, are all annoying the girl, going about this the wrong way if they want her attention. He’s also the least likely person in the room that she would be drawn to if you went on outward appearances alone. He says “Watch this”, and he proceeds to walk up to her, says “Hi” to her and uses her name, and then asks her how her day is going, how’s school, stuff like that. Just a casual conversation, no grandstanding on his part, conversation all focused on her, and within 1 minute she’s hanging around us and chatting and even hugs my buddy at one point, and there are at least 15 other men all around us still trying to get her attention.

Taught me a good lesson about interacting with people. He and I are both happily married and had no intentions of messing with her at all...just enjoying a conversation with a pretty young lady, etc. And actually I learned later that he knew a little bit about her and he was trying to “save” her from this other commotion to some degree. And she was very appreciative. She handled it all well, so outwardly you wouldn’t have known she was sick of it, but obviously she was.

So that was YOU behind my group? Sorry man, but she was worth the effort. To make amends, would you like her phone #?

Most of the guys I’ve seen “working” the cart girl aren’t doing it out of sexual nature. They’re really just trying to make sure she makes it back to them at least a couple times each nine. They don’t want to get thirsty!

Reminds me of a big trucking company outing held at a course I worked at when I was younger. Working girls hired and placed behind the stand of thick pine trees to the left of the thirteenth fairway. Caused quite the back up around the turn. You'd never seen such accuracy off the tee from 20 handicaps - every drive found its way into those pines.

To make a long story short. The guy who sponsored the outing ran a strip club...

The girls did not play, but they definitely held up play...lol
