Advice on my potential arm-lock build.

I’ve got a Scotty Cameron studio design 1 that’s being sent in for a polished black oxide finish and paint infill.

I love the head and have several others lay around the house at the moment so this one can be different and if it doesn’t work out it’s not an issue.

My putting stroke I think would favour an armlock putter so

Why not give it a try? Can anybody give advice on anything I may be overlooking, should change or if it’s just a terrible idea?

The refurbisher / builder is on holiday currently so I don’t want to bother them further, just want to know exactly what I want so I can supply grip, shaft and spec etc and let them crack on.

SC Studio Design 1 Head (330g)

38 inch .382 Flare Tip Shaft (Weight 128g) plus 2 inch extension (this sits 2 inch below crook of arm)

17 Inch Armlock AL2 Grip (305g)

Thinking of adding Tungsten powder in the shaft and corking to get some extra weight down near the head, what’s the ideal head weight of an arm-lock putter? Any problems envisaged with doing this?

Secondly, any recommendations on loft and lie as a start point, taking in to account the grip claims to add circa 3 degree of loft? I can get this adjusted with my coach once I have the putter back so it’s not a deal breaker but if it’s set up as middle of the park then hopefully shouldn’t need too much dialling in.

Any advice, knowledge or feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

I believe almost all retail arm locks have headweights around 400 grams.

My first thought is that that grip is super heavy. I think I've browsed essentially every commercially available long grip, and they are all in the 90 to 160 gram range. However, since that grip is made to essentially convert conventional putters to arm locks, maybe the heavy weight is intentional because of the likely lighter weight of the conventional head that it's working with? Honestly, I have no idea.

I'd be inclined to just go bend your putter to the correct loft, slap on a long grip (the new Superstroke or Jumbomax, my favorite Rosemark, Winn belly, etc.), and try to add weight to the head however you can. I'm not sure how easy that'll be with a 330 gram starting point. I think I actually just talked myself back into your plan.

I wouldn't use that grip personally. Way too heavy. I'd use a normal 17"-21" grip and bend the putter to add loft.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, what about this grip? Comes in at 130g I believe Bryson is using it. May be a lot more suitable. Releases in a couple weeks which suits anyway.

I did my o works tank. Extended to 41 and had it bent to 71 degree lie and 5 degrees of loft. Used 17 inch superstroke grip so far so good can’t wait to test on course when weather clears up

This is the route I’d go. Just adding loft won’t get it done imo, there’s not enough offset in the hosel.
