Automatic Distance Gain from Titleist 910 upgrade?

Every year I hear one or two guys at the club rave about their new driver. "I've gained 30 yards!"

Putting aside the placebo effect of a shiny new driver, I would also imagine that at some point technology upgrades can assist performance.

So, all things considered: Same swing, same golfer, going from old Titliest 910 Driver to new Titleist TS2 Driver --- will I gain noticeable distance from an equipment upgrade? Or stick with my trusty 910?

I went from 910 D2 to TS3 and picked up about 10m’s, take the extra distance with a pinch of salt as I went from 9.5*-8.5* lofted down which brought my launch and spin down an awful lot

I think perhaps what you would find going from the 910 series to ts2 is consistency on off center strikes. For me there isn’t a huge difference in spin between a pure strike and a bit off center.

Just in case, don't get rid of your 910 D2.

I sold off my 913 D2 (basically the same as a 910) in order to upgrade this winter. I was tempted by the TS line but I got a super deal on an M3 so I went with that. 

The M3 is louder and a bit more abrasive sounding but so far it's noticeably more stable on off-center strikes and carries farther based on the higher launch. 

FWIW, I also miss on the toe and so far the twist-face seems great. I'm surprised how far I can impact off-center (towards the toe) and still get a very reasonable fairway-finding result. 

Am I happy I upgraded? 

Oh, without question! I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The results speak for themselves. The old Titleist stuff looks and sounds good but the newer stuff clearly beats it in my experience. 

The TS series is in stock form is half an inch longer and shafts are 10 grams lighter than the 910, so you should gain distance just with the stock made for shafts at retail, if you have an off the shelf 910.

Depends on whether you were properly fit for both.  Newer should be better on off center strikes but center hits may not see a huge bump in distance.  A lot of the huge gains talked about are golfers who were never fit for their current driver and then actually get fit for a new one.

All golfer cannot center strikes all the times. The forgiveness of the newer drivers will let you swing more freely and there's some distance gain comes from. I just upgraded to TS2 after 3 trips to driver custom fits. The new driver is more forgiving and a lot more longer for me.
