"Miura - Quest for the Perfect Golf Club"

Apologies if this has been posted before, I searched and didn't see anything. Thought this was a great little video from a YouTuber I just came across for the first time today. Definitely not the typical YouTube fare, and some cool insight into the Miura mystique.

That was really cool to watch.  I’ve got a set of 1957 baby blades and I only hit them once.  Awsome feel but I’m not good enough to play them anymore.  However you can clearly see the wonderful craftsmanship in each club.

Best thing United ever did. I can’t even imagine being fit by Miura-san, let alone playing golf with him.

The closest to that experience I will likely ever come is interfacing with the gentleman who prunes our four black pine “bonsai” trees each year. They are each about 6-8 feet tall and of similar width. He is 94 years old, and has been working his art on our trees since the 1990’s. He was a kamikaze instructor pilot during WWII. As the war was winding down, even the instructors were beginning to be sacrificed. The bombs dropped just before his final mission was to launch.

He teaches Japanese gardening at a nearby university and also lectures on Buddhism. He always brings two or three junior associates and an intern. He works patiently over a 5-6 hour period with each of them and always personally designs the main tree himself. It is a six hour painstaking process as each bough is repurposed or eliminated or perfected. The gentile intensity and humility and perfection with which he tasks himself and the others is always a distinct privilege to observe from a distance. A kind old soul for whom perfection is simply a way of life. Each tree is a living entity to be respected and cherished.

I can only imagine that meeting Miura-san and being fit by him would be a similar singular privilege.
