Latest iron sets with 48* wedges

I miss the days of the 48/54/60 wedge setup. What were/are the best player sets that are spaced off a 48* wedge?

Now-a-days the 48* is stamped with a G (or A) instead of a P. Once you just look at lofts and ignore whatever non-sense companys stamp on the bottom of clubs, there are plenty:

Apex pro AW - 49*

Taylormade P730 - 47

Titleist:

AP1 - 48 (stamped W)

AP3 - 48 (Stamped W)

718CB - 47 (stamped P)

718MB - 47 (stamped P)

I'm sure you can find more....

MP-67s are one of the newest, if not the latest to have a 48° PW. 3 iron is 22°.

Much easier to find 47s. Ping S56, Bridgestone J40 CB, Titleist CB, Works well with a 52 / 58 or 53 / 60 setup.

Just bought MP63 and usually i go 42/9 50 54 58 but bave tried as 42/9 46pw then 54 and 58 and thats easy too work with.

I have tried 48 and 47 then 54 then 60 also. Just play what your comfy with.

I really need a get outa jail save me 58ish that i love and vokey 58S is The Find. 54 is old 54 SM mint cond 2007ish.

As a Ping rep told me, the 47* is a very versatile loft for the player's model PW. Can be bent to 46* if you want 50+ 54 + 58 on specialty wedges / bent to 48* for 48 / 54 /60... or any number of combinations.

Until recently, I had 46 / 50 / 54 /58, but switched to 48 / 54 / 60 in part for simplicity sake (and because I found a 60* I could actually hit!)

One glitch: I have about a 20 yard gap between 9i and PW; to solve, I can choke down on the 9i to shave yardage, or play PW back 1" in stance to lower loft slightly. Just so much easier to manage than four wedges.

FWIW, I would have great difficulty selecting a set of irons off the PW loft of that set. Those types of issues have never entered my list of considerations. Wedges can be purchased or bent or ground to accommodate the transition from iron set to wedges. Increasing the loft on a PW by one degree and decreasing the loft on a 52 or a 54 by one degree usually just isn’t an issue. Simply buy a gap or mid wedge with a hair more bounce. Correcting the toe hang on many wedges can often provide a distance equivalent to one less degree of loft while making the club more accurate. Also, as you’ve said, gripping down 1/2” to 1” on the PW will also resolve the issue and probably increase the accuracy to boot. Some pros almost always grip down on their wedges and higher lofted irons. Anyway, maybe food for thought.

Nike Vapor Pros in 2015 had a 47 p wedge.

Scratch SB-1 blades had a 48 degree PW, but I guess those are getting kind of old now.
