What fell out of my shaft?

I bought a Kuro Kage Black driver shaft with a Callaway adapter on it and something was rattling inside. I removed the grip and this cylinder of plastic fell out. See pic. It seems too light to be a counterweight. What is it?

It's epoxy.

Its not epoxy. It should be flexible, like hard plastic. I’ve never actually seen a definitive explanation from any manufacturer of what that is but it has to do with the manufacturing process and it’s some sort of “filler” in the last couple inches of the tip. I’ve found it in the majority of graphite shafts that I have bored out for the first time to clean the tips after pulling an adapter or iron head. It’s nothing to worry about. Toss it.

Sometimes they use a little extra epoxy to add a couple games of tip weight.

LOL! I wish one of the shaft manufacturer reps would jump in here. I really don’t think It’s epoxy. You can just shove it out of the tip with a 1/8 inch drill bit. It’s quite uniform at each end and Its not stuck to the walls. I think it’s some kind of plastic filler or spacer needed when making the shaft.

it is 100% epoxy. Ive built thousands of clubs. When you epoxy a head and put it in a clean hosel some of the epoxy goes up the shaft and dries and can break loose. Try putting a shaft on without boring the old epoxy out of the tip of the shaft and see what happens. It won't dry and probably won't go in all the way because there is nowhere for the air to go.

That giant plug pictured would be a LOT of epoxy. There would have to be a huge amount of it just sitting in the hosel before shaft installation to creep up the shaft nearly 2 inches. Who puts on a shaft like that? To purposely add a gram of weight? Really? I don’t know. I sure have never used that much epoxy.

Actually, that's not all that much epoxy. It doesn't take a whole lot of extra to push up the center of the shaft like shown.

I could see how it would like like a piece of molded plastic considering how smooth the inside of the shaft walls would be... it's pretty close to the same thing. The diameter of the inside of most graphite shafts is so small it would seem that it could make a plug that size with just an ounce or so of excess. I've actually never seen anything like that which is unusual considering how many adapters I've pulled.

Nope. Its just epoxy. It usually matches the colour of the rest of the epoxy residue aswell.

Someone just put a bunch of epoxy in the hosel or adapter when building...and the the easiest route for the epoxy to flow was up the shaft. Its very smooth because the inside of the shaft is too...

Don't some oem's like ping put a plug of some sort inside the tip of the graphite shaft to keep epoxy from going to far up the shaft? I am not saying that is what this is as it definitely looks to be epoxy but you never know
