Paint chipped - New Taylor’s Made Spider X

Anyone else had an issue?

I have had my navy/white one 3-4 weeks and already have a paint chip off on top of white section right on the leading edge. Disappointing. Also noticed some wear on the black weights on the back. Always stays in head cover and sits in top section with driver and 3 wood. Definitely not being banged around but handled with care.

Any experience with TM customer service?

I had my spider tour black for 2 seasons and it looked like new when I sold it. Not sure what ppl do to get paint chips? Some type of abuse. The paint won’t just fall off

Actually, yes it will. My red tour lived in its cover and still looked like I was using it to clear rocks.

Not the news I wanted to hear. I've had the older spiders and took care of them but still ended up with chipping.

It's paint people...it's going to chip. Options would be to A) get a non-painted putter B) bead blast yours and customize it or C) send it out to have it re-painted...

TM customer service will likely tell you as RONSTARS did, it's paint and will chip.

Ticked me off back in the Burner Bubble days, so I generally stay away from painted clubs.

Use car wax on the putter. Maybe that will help.

I haven't had any issues and I got mine the day it came out and have played 7 rounds since then with no issue ....and using it like a normal putter (tapping down pitch marks, putts off the fringe in crap lies covered in dirt/mud).

They really chip easily. Can anyone recommend what paint can be used to touch up the white site line?

Have both the tour black and red. Red paint flakes off easily black holds up good. Not sure why

The paint chips. It's much better than the paint used on the white Ghost spider line, but it will still chip.

It's been my experience that most people aren't as careful as they think they are. I babied the heck out of my JDay Itsy Bitsy proto, but I got a couple of chips because a wedge bumped it when I brought both to the green. Little things like that happen and you end up with chips even if the putter is always in a cover when it's in the bag.

TaylorMade makes garbage putters. This is quite expected.

Can anyone recommend how to touch up chips like this...

This one isn't mine - its from ebay. But i do have a tiny mark on mine.

I remember buying some color matched touch-up paint from ebay for an old taylormade driver (R11 or whenever they started with the white crown) to fix some marks on the top line...so maybe something like that would work? Personally, I wouldn't over think it...paint is paint. I'll update if I can remember the brand, but it seemed to work pretty well back then.

My issues with TM were a few years ago but I had a similar problem with the original M1 driver. It was the first run done in Mexico (not judging) and the quality control needed some work, the paint on my head was sloppy and chipping around edge details. I would go back to the place you bought it and show them, my club swapped my head out no question. Last TM club I bought since, but I would have to think things have gotten better.

I have found the paint on the Spider X to be more fragile than the paint on my Spider Tour black.... Both are kept with headcovers on and are well cared for. The spider X looks like its older than the Spider and the Spider is almost 2yrs old.

I’ve had my Spider X since it was released and it still looks brand new. Are folks not using hardcovers or carrying clubs and putter in the same hand when walking back to your bag??

Yes. I have had the issue which is how I got to this discussion. I have the navy and white ex and the white paint is chipped so badly that it effects my confidence in it. I will find a way to repaint it but it’s not a pure white so it’ll be hard to match.

Most of the Spyder putters in my clubs pro shop have chips on the top leading edge. I guess just from guys demoing them in the shop! Not very durable.

Taylormade’s putters are known for their paint issues. I’ve a Spider X and paint is definitely chipped. Thankfully, it’s not too bad and adds a bit character.
