Depends on how many lost lol. I'll play a ball till I loose it unless it gets a big enough cut. Scuffs dont bother me so usually anything off the cart path or rocks I'll play a new ball after that hole.

Extremely variable. I can play one ball for five rounds or lose five balls in a round...

Let me re-phrase: Without damaging through impact with nature or cart path, or losing them, how many rounds would you play the same ball.........

If I'm not damaging the ball, I'm not replacing it. But over 36 holes the odds of the ball not hitting a rock, cart path, or getting lost are pretty slim.

If I don't lose a ball for a round, I tend to use a new ball for a new round.
4-5 hard wedge shot will damage the ball anyway.

I think if I could keep a single ball for a round I’d celebrate by replacing it next round

It depends on the time of year for me. While it's wet and chilly, I'll use a ball until it's lost or cut. Little scuffs don't bother me. In the summer when I'm posting scores, I'll get rid of a ball if it's scuffed or shaved by my wedges. But as long as there are no scuffs or other damage, I'll keep playing the ball regardless of number of rounds. Of course, that doesn't happen too often.

Somewhere in the Snell l Ball thread I chronicled my rounds with one ball. I think it was somewhere in that 10-12 round range.

EDIT: I had to go back and check. I was 90 holes with one ball, so just five rounds.

Ebrasmus was the one with 10+ rounds. It’s in the Snell ball thread n

Depends on a lot of things but, safe to say maybe a ball a round. More in a round if you lose and less if your playing soft or wet conditions.

The course is the biggest variable for me. I've never played my favorite Detroit course with a single ball, but I've played some local (read as flat and lacking danger) courses with a single ball several times. I once found a Callaway Chrome with the markings and got something like 34 holes out of it and then wondered if my desire not to lose influenced my play.

Same as above. On the off chance that ball gets me through the whole round, you better bet I’m starting the next round with that one to ride the wave.

In the days before competition conforming grooves rule I would only play one round with a ball, sometimes less, as the sharp wedge grooves would shear off some of the cover on crisp wedge shots. Nowadays with the new grooves I can usually play a ball two rounds before taking it out of play. And if it's a yellow Srixon Z Star I can play 3 or 4 rounds. Those things last forever!

I'll play a ball until the scuff marks no longer clean up reasonably well with a wet towel. They then go into the junk ball pile or shag bag. This is usually somewhere around 3-4 rounds.

Occasionally, I'll also hit a few of these retired balls out on the range if I'm really trying to get a gauge on my actual distances for that particular range session (I otherwise pay little attention to distance with range balls.)

If I make it a whole round without losing a ball or having significant scuffing, I'll put it back in the bag and use it later. I usually start each round with a new ball unless it's very early or late in the season, but if I lose a couple or am not playing well, the other balls that have been played for a while will often come out.

3 birdies (my old pro told me no ball has more than 3 in it) or play it until I lose it.... so, play it until I lose it.

Being retired, I like to let the ball age a little before it retires to the shag bag. Typically 3 rounds is about the expected life unless I scuff it before on a cart path or after hitting a killer wedge with super spin (in my dreams).

A buddy gave me a sleeve of balls I am unfamiliar with: Callaway Legacy Black golf balls. I managed to play a whole round the other day with one ball on a course that is known for eating golf balls.

If I am playing a full round I will use a new ball, they then go in the bag to be used for warming up in the net, to practice chipping and provisional balls. If they make it though this then they end up in the practice bag.

If I actually make it through the entire round with one ball, its usually in pretty rough shape, as its probably hit a cartpath or tree somewhere along the way, and/or wedge scuffs. I don't know that I'd consciously remember to keep playing it unless it had a random logo on it.
