Dallas Courses for a Long Weekend

I'll be coming down to the DFW area in a couple of weeks (April 17-20) for a work conference. I'm conference ends on the 18th @ noon and I'm flying out the 20th at 330p. I'm hoping to get a couple rounds of golf in while I'm there.

I've looking around these forums and have looked at a number of courses in the area. I'm hoping for some suggestions on which ones are in good shape this time of year and any general recommendations. I'm planning on getting a round in Thursday around 2 or 3 and another on Friday morning.

I'll be staying in Ft. Worth on until Thursday, at which point I'll be relocating to a hotel in North Dallas. I'll probably rely on Uber to get me around (is there a good Uber/Lyft presence in the area?).

The Cowboys course doesn't have any tee times at times/price I'm able to play. I've looked at Old American, but that might be out of my price range...jury is still out on that one. The front runners so far are Pecan Hollow, The Tribute, Frisco Lakes, Grapevine Muni, and Stevens Park.

Any help is appreciated. Also, non golf, but any other attractions/things to see and do in the DFW area that I should put on my list since this is my first time visiting?

I played Frisco Lakes last weekend and greens are good and it is playing pretty firm right now. Not sure about the other courses.

Frisco Lakes and Grapevine have always been in good conditions when I've been there.

If you are starting in Ft Worth Thursday. I would try either of the Cooligan Golf rebuilds/ designs ; the newest is Texas Rangers GC in Arlington which opened in February. It's wonderful resort -type public course.

Rockwood Park in Ft Worth is fun and 5 minutes from downtown. Don't let the low slope lull you into thinking it's easy. It's not. It's been open since July 2017 so the greens are more receptive now.

IMO Texas Star GC should be on any wishlist for DFW.

Side trip; “Lockhart BBQ” in Oak Cliff or Plano.

Tribute is ok, its just close enough to recognize the holes but if youre only here for a few days i would try something else. the byron monday q course is at sky creek ranch in keller if you wanna see how you do compared to those scores which will be posted a week later

Waterchase is also a good option just east of Ft Worth.

I would consider:

Texas Star

Tierra Verde

Stevens Park

Tennison Park—Highlands course

Waterchase

The Tribute

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Sounds like a lot of good options. I think I'm going to do an evening round (330ish tee time) at Texas Star on Thursday and then 36 on Friday starting at Sky Creek Ranch in the morning then heading to Cowboys in the afternoon.

Any one played Texas Star, Cedar Crest, or Tribute recently and know how the greens are? Played Indian and Coyote and they were awful.

Played Rockwood today and have nothing but good things to say about it. Well designed course with some really fun designed holes. Was in great shape for a city course.
