Original Apex Hybrid - Which shaft are you using?

Before anyone says it, I know it's best to go get fitted. For several reasons, that's not going to be an option for me at least currently.

I have the 20* w/ the stock Reg-flex Fujikura Pro 75g shaft. My problem is that it feels way too light for me, which makes it really hard to hit down on it.

My numbers:

Carry: 200 yd

Ball Speed: 130 mph

Launch Angle: 16*

Peak Height: 32 yd

I'm 6'1" btw.

Should I be playing a Stiff flex? Or, should I maybe play a longer shaft? I really love this club and want to buy the 18* version, but I really need to get a better shaft to avoid thinning it.

I have the 18-20-23-26 in the originals

The 23 in v2 just came home

I use 3 diff shafts. Matrix. mFS 85. Matrix HQ3 red. Speeder 904hb.

Is there a specific reason you went with the variation of shafts (e.g., launch profile)? Or was that just how they came when you bought them. Can you tell me anything about how they compare to each other?

Just diff shafts I've learned I like over the years

I tend to move shafts I like from older heads to newer ones

The stock Kuro Kage 80s isn't awful either

I have an 18 20 and 23 in my rotation - the 18 doesnt get much use these days. The 20* is shafted with an Aldila Tour Blue 85x and the 23 has the same shaft but in 105 grams X flex for a slightly lower launch.

Lots of good hybrid options out there in heavier weights. One affordable option might be the steelfiber which is a quite stout and designed to play similar to a steel shaft. Lots of different weights to choose from also.

I have the original Apex Hybrid in 20 degree, with a Diamana D+ 95. It works great, it's hard for me to hit a 20+ degree hybrid typically due to launch

Thanks for responses so far. Lots of great suggestions, and most of these options are pretty cheap (for graphite shafts) since it's an older setup.

I shoot in the high-80s/low-90s, so I was worried about being able to hit this club. However, it has become one of my favorite clubs. It's nearly impossible to hook (which is my miss on woods/hybrids), but my one miss so far has been thinned shots. I know it's all me and not the club, but I do think a heavier and/or stiffer shaft will help. The clubhead is extremely light, so it's very easy for my hands to out-run my lower body and never get down to the ground.

I saw that the new Apex line comes with Project X Catalyst shafts, which I understand to be graphite iron shafts essentially. So, I might try one of those out.

I have all of them. 16°, 18°, 20°, 23° and 26°.

I only game 2 of them nowadays. The 18° and 23°.

All of them are shafted with Fujikura 904HB shafts.

They. Are. Rocket. Launchers.

Average carry with the 18° is 245.

Average carry with the 23° is 225.
