Buying a club online?

~18 hcp recently fitted for some new irons (pw-5 g410). I am looking for a 4 hybrid, and the fitter said a off the shelf 4 hybrid with a stiff shaft will be fine for me. Thinking of just ordering last season's ping 4 hybrid online.

Good idea? Bad idea? Given my handicap and fitters advice I don't think I need to be fitted for it. Hit some Ping hybrids and liked them, and figure it will be the logical choice given the irons.

Any advice would be helpful, I am not very savvy when it comes to equipment and tech.

It is no problem buying online. You don't need to get fit for every club, right away. If you hit them already and know that you like them - do it. There are good sites that stand behind their sales....new or used. 3Balls, RockBottomGolf, Golf Galaxy, many mfgs also have preowned sites. Just make sure it is standard length / stock setup vs a frankenstein if buying used.

If you have any of the big box stores around (Golf Galaxy for example). They have a 30 day policy on used clubs - buy it, try it for 30 days and if not happy return it in same condition for a store credit. Online is pretty easy also. Might want to look at the BST classified section on this site. Always good stuff to be had.

After getting initially custom fit and buying new... I typically only buy used now (and modify the club to my specs). Typical of a WRX'er who is always tinkering, I'm a regular at my local golf shops in the area, hitting as many used clubs that catch my interest. I'm also a big fan of the Ping hybrids... not a bad idea at all for you. Enjoy!

That's the key. You have hit the Ping hybrids before, so you know what to expect.

I got a fitting on my FlyZ 4H, liked it and bought it, and a year later bought a FlyZ 3H. Several years ago, I had tested out the Callaway X20 and X20 Tour irons. AT first I got the standard X20s, but two seasons later traded them in through Callaway PreOwned for X20 Tours; I played the X20 Tours for eight seasons.
