Anyone playing the srixon z-forged irons?

I played 965's for a couple years. Loved them. Got fit about a month ago and I switched to 785's. The cavity backs lowered my spin significantly, over 10%. I liked the 985's way more but went with the clubs that fit my results better.

Will hopefully have my Z-Forged in the bag in a few weeks. Felt great during testing! Will move from 745's and I can't said I noticed any loss of forgiveness during my testing.

Not knocking the 585, but it is a far cry from the Z Forged the OP is asking about. I have yet to see the ZF in hand.

I know the 965 is a great iron. It was a deceptively playable gamer. So is the 945. Well known as some of the most playable MB heads out there. I saw one report that said the Z Forged is ever so slightly larger profile than the 965, but more square. Would not bother me. How it compares in the ease of hitting and blade size to 945, 965, MP18 and Cally Apex MB is what I really want to know. If it is the friendliest of the bunch, and the V-sole is toned down or gone, I am all over it. It is fun to have blades to play even if not every round. But I do like a more generous look from address. Not too long heel to toe, but not so compact I notice it. That is why I like the 945/965 so much. I was fitted for 965. Got better results than with the 765.

Yeah I went with the z forged and should have it next Wednesday. I went into my fitting expecting to walk out with Titleist mb/cb combo because they looked the best at address to me. Thin top line, compact and small. In terms of looking best at address to me, it was this Titleist> Taylormade 730> Callaway Apex> mizuno mp18> z forged.

Z forged is a visually beautiful club. At address it was the longest out of the bunch and the top line thickness was close to mizuno. It was at the bottom of my desired list. I went to the fitting with an open mind to try everything and see what gave me the best numbers.

As I said it came down to mizuno vs z forged. Both felt the best to me and z forged felt the softest. I was able to work the ball better with it and it gave me literally flawless dispersion, flight, spin, smash factor, etc.

I was just hitting it so well that I immediately ignored how big it looked compared to others. Mishits were still very good. The way I look at it, I never gamed blades before and i think this is a great blade choice for a player to transition into blades to get a feel of it and understand how they work before getting into a smaller head. I never seen the 9 series to determine how much different they look to z forged. I think z forged will be a very underrated blade out there, a hidden gem.

This is true, yet also true that the Z Forged has the highest MOI of the three heads (945, 965, Z Forged) and also have the COG the closest to the middle of the face. Don’t know how they did that but they did.

What helps the 945 long irons is it has the lowest COG of the series, so easier to launch.

Great post. I didn’t know it was highest moi. I would consider playing it in the future for sure then I actually like the shape

I suspect the wave formation of the muscle back is what actually helps them to position the COG in the centre of the face

I have been playing the 785's since they came out and recently replaced the 9 and PW with the ZForged. They are very easy to hit and feel great. Will probably replace the 8 and maybe 7 soon.

Went with the Nippon 130X's, been playing them for a few years in my previous Z745's and absolutely love them. They've done wonders for my consistency and ball flight!

That's very disappointing, same with the new Wilson Staff blade as well. Too long, heel to toe

I hit the Z Forged in store, definitely a great feeling iron. Srixon uses the softest metal of all the OEM's and their irons always feel amazing. The Z Forged is definitely a large profile though, nowhere near as small as the other blades. It's still nice looking and I would game them, but next to something small like the 718 MB's they look quite huge.

I hit the 7 iron at the PGASS on the 4th. I tried them with the Steelfiber i95 stiff shafts. It was the most effortless iron/shaft combo I think I've ever it. They felt so soft (I currently bag the z765) and my dispersion was tight. And the distance I was getting was so consistent. These will be in my bag before the end of the season. Yes, they are bigger than most blades but to me they just make you feel confident to swing away. Srixon is putting out such great equipment.

Incredible iron. Hands down. My only gripe and this is such a nit pick and me being a cry baby, I can't stand the font they use for the numbers on the sole. Feel, look, at address, response, and detailing....The Z-Forged has it all down at a bit lower price than a lot of the iron sets out there.

Z-Forged + X100 (or CTAPER 130X) = a class class setup.

I progressed to Srixon Z Forged from Srixon Z785 last year. I contacted Srixon and found out that their next line of MBs will not be released in 2021 hence pulled the trigger. Although they are MBs, I felt the playability was very close to the CBs. This doesn't mean I didn't have a transition period. It took me about 1 week of play and practice (plus a couple lessons) to get my iron swings really tuned up to use these.

They are forgiving for a blade but still had to put on a solid, consistent swing otherwise your fingers will be gone by the end of the round. Even after 1 week, I would sometimes make silly mistakes and "blade" the balls which would have been an automatic shot with Z785. So yes, they are more forgiving compared to other MBs I tried but by no means these are as easy as people think they are. But I was determined to make it work because of two main reasons.

1. I wasn't getting any younger and I really wanted to game blades before I became too old to use them.

2. The FEEL. Once you get addicted to puring a blade, I think it is hard to go back to anything else.

I was considering the following irons before choosing Z Forged as my final gamer.

  • Titleist T100
  • Titleist 620MB
  • Mizuno MP20 MMC
  • Mizuno MP20 MB
  • Mizuno MP18 MB
  • Miura MC-501 (This was the only club I couldn't demo so had to rely on this forum to find out more info)

My final decision to go with Srixon Z Forged came down to the following:

1. VT Sole

2. Forgiveness (compared to other MBs) including gameable 3 iron

3. Loft set up. 1 degree stronger than other MBs in default setting.

4. FEEL - Solid, dense and powerful feel when struck (complete opposite of soft, almost mushy feel of Mizuno)

Fast forward to current and my iron shots have been better than ever. I can now confidently use 3,4,5 irons to attack pins from a distance. Got rid of my hybrid, changed my wedge setup (from 50, 54 and 58 to 52 and 58) to include space for 3 iron, and even switched balls from Titleist Pro V1 to Srixon Z Star.

Whether people agree or not, in my personal experience blades made my swing change 180 degrees positively. Solid iron shots are now pretty much a norm and improved swing techniques also positively improved my overall shots with woods and partial shots with wedges. My handicap was stuck at 16 forever prior to blades and now I am a hair away from single digit. So try it for yourself and don't let other naysayers deter you.

NOTE: The only negative I can say about Z Forged iron is that they get banged up pretty easily. No head cover is going to save you as the wear and tear comes from normal play. But it's ok because I personally don't care about the wear and I will be upgrading to the next release of Srixon MB.
