They asked Rory about him during his presser the other day. He misses AK. We all miss AK. AK was a legend.

I wouldn't call injury derailed career "waste of talent".

He'd burn through that cash in no time with that combo. Oh, and don't forget to add Vegas to the mix.

Guy overly enamoured of money and flashy lifestyle takes out lucrative loss of value insurance policy.

Guy gets hurt, cashes in 10s of millions and avoids the press like the plague.

American success story.

  • 2 weeks later...

There are common sports injuries, freak and tragic sports injuries, and then....something in between. I don’t know which applies to AK...but I hope the agents, lawyers and managers that set up his package got a bonus. If he can’t play then I’m glad he has the financial protection to live his life. I guarantee he paid the premiums for his disability policy.

Apparently I’m the only one, but I couldn’t possibly care any less about Anthony Kim or what happened to him or what he is doing now. I didn’t understand the “love” he got when he was playing, and don’t understand this “Oh, I saw AK” mentality now.

Someone please enlighten me...why does anyone think twice about Anthony Kim?

Edited to add: I will say this for him. I saw him check into the Marriott on Long Island prior to the US Open at Bethpage back in 08 I think, and he had a 6 foot blonde on his left arm and a 6 foot blonde on his right arm as he walked in. It was made funnier by the fact that he might be 5’7” standing on a stepstool.

First and foremost, dude did some remarkable things during his short stay on tour and became a Ryder Cup hero in 2008. He also didn't fit the buttoned-up golfer profile as your anecdote points out. He dressed flashy, spent his cash, slept with pretty women, and lived loud - all the same reasons people liked watching the first 90 minutes of Wolf of Wall Street. And, let's face it, he did all this while being Asian. Asian men still face negative stereotypes in Western society, and he blew those stereotypes to pieces in his short but wild ride. I'm not saying the racial issue was on the same level as Tiger, but it was still a thing.

So a not-fat and Asian version of John Daly?
