The Japanese models state the specs on the sole or the face. The Japanese putters are made shorter and heavier. The heavier head is usually preferred. I have a scotty cameron Aop Newport 33/350 1 of 100 black oxide finish, in most newports there is a cavity on the back face but in the Japanese 33/350 the cavity is not cut out so they retain weight and keep the thick topline.

It depends entirely on what putter you are referring to. For instance, the early Newports were available in a 'Black Star' finish which was released only in Japan. This finish was also on the SCM5 Scottymaster of which 1,000 were produced.

Popper is also correct with the Oil Can and Black Oxide Newports. There were 300 of the Oil Can and 100 of the Black Oxide 'Art of Putting' Newports models made in the heavier 350g /33" with the specs stamped on the sole. A bit of trivia - these were actually all manufactured in the USA for female golfers but did not prove popular. In Japan however, they loved them and so they were all sent off and have been known as the 'Asian Spec' models ever since. :-)
