Guy at my shop has them and they are just starting to rust after his tenth or so round. They look nice...maintaining a lot of the original color still.

Why would you buy raw tow begin with?

I want mine to rust a bit, Love the look.

I was misled a bit I feel like honestly. I mentioned this concern to the fitter when we we're ordering and he led me to think it would not be an issue. Not that it wouldn't rust, but that it would be minor. But yeah, I should have made a better decision. Live and learn.

Just picked up my RTX 4's, really looking forward to see how they compare to the RTX 3's I played previously. Will be interesting to see how long it takes before the rust starts to do it's magic! znwta2oz6fgh.jpg

You can invest in a 12 pack of Coca-Cola and soak your wedges in it overnight once a month. It'll take most of the rust off and make them look super clean. Just got my new 60 degree version the other day with scramble winnings and I love it but want to get all the bronzey color off. Love a raw wedge

Here are mine after play down in sunny (humid) Florida. The 60 (closest) was bronze a week ago, but is definitely darkening quickly and picking up a light layer of rust. The 56 is fully rusted. As mentioned, a coke back (or even a pass with a scotchbrite pad) will remove most of the rust and leave raw steel. The life of the bronze finish will likely depend on your geography.

I like using CLR, seems less messy and time consuming, just dip a wire brush and starts scrubbing. That being said i wont use raw finishes lol, i prefer a clean look.

I bought black Vokeys this year but didn't hit them before I removed the black by soaking in vinegar for a few hours then lightly rubbing with a Scotchbrite.

I did this to save the $50 extra that Vokey wanted for a raw wedge.

To my point, if you order a black RTX, and it wears to your dissatisfaction, you can probably remove it altogether yielding a raw wedge.

Clarification- copper brush. Much softer, wont dull anything

I remember reading an article that showed that rust reduces spin, it makes sense. Although I do have a love for raw irons. I wish a company would release a set of raw irons at standard weights.

Those look super cool and I like the lineup too. Also, I saw another poster said the raw finish reduces spin, but I always thought the attraction to raw wedges is the look and no glare from It; and that a raw wedge spins a tiny bit more, not less. Or all spin claims a myth?

From a quick article I found. Makes sense the micro milled edges on the face really impart spin. The rust maybe lessens this ability as there are less ridges? Grooves don't really impart spin either, they channel the dirt/grass/water from getting between the ball and the face. I saw a test(before face milling) where a PW with grooves and a PW without grooves were hit and were pretty close on backspin, when you put the ball in the rough, or have dew or something else that the grooves make the difference.

What Happened

We hit full-out shots and half-shots with both the 52 and 58 degree wedges. Across the board, for both testers, the Tour Satin (not rusted) wedge performed fractionally better. There was no obvious reason why the rusty finish didn't quite perform better, but we reckon the answer lies in a modern wedge's tech tory.

Like a lot of wedges the new RTX-3 has laser-milled micro grooves between each fave groove. By letting rust form over these grooves, we reckon spin could be hampered. So in effect, modern, laser-milled grooves seem to be more effective than rust at imparting spin.

The rust myth started years ago, when clubs were finished in chrome. When the chrome wore through the resulting rust did enhance spin. But nowadays, as milling technology is so good, it's likely wedge manufactureres have realised precision-milled grooves are better at consistently imparting spin than rust.

The Key Numbers

52 degree Cleveland RTX-3 (mid-bounce)

- Average Tour Satin backspin: 7781rpm

- Average Tour Raw backspin : 6250rpm

58 degree Cleveland RTX-3 (mid-bounce)

- Average Tour Satin backspin: 6644rpm

- Average Tour Raw backspin : 5248rpm
