The GOAT (merged)

All doubt has been removed, Tiger is the greatest golfer to ever play the game. The way he dismantled that field on the back nine, at 43 years of age, is the greatest achievement in golf I've witnessed in my lifetime.

Hopefully a few of the debates about Tiger that have been floating around here can now be put to bed. Today proves that prime Tiger would have crushed today's fields, and that it wasn't that the old fields were weaker, it's just that Tiger was and still is that good. Today he applied the blow torch on the back nine and they all collapsed under the pressure. Tiger coasted to the line today and crushed them without getting out of second gear, imagine what 2000 Tiger would do to these guys. He didn't even need the extra intimidation of Stevie on the bag to get it done ?

In all honesty I think may be his last one, you could see how much it took out of him emotionally, and he said he has to get up at 4.45am just to have time to get his body ready for play. I got the impression that he had a point to prove, and now he's proven it he might give it all away. He has nothing more to prove, it wouldn't surprise me to see him retire. He came into majors on top winning his first attempt in 97, going out with a green jacket would be fitting.

And if Tiger goes past him, 19 second places will be the new benchmark. Jack was great, but it's time to let go and accept that he is not the greatest golfer of all time. Jack was an incredible major champion who had an insatiable will to win, but prime Tiger was a force of nature, he won his majors by strength of will. You could see it again today. Even though the putts weren't dropping like they used to, he held his head while everyone around him was losing theirs. The pivotal moment was the 12th. Molinari, Finau and Koeapka misjudged the wind and made doubles, Tiger played safe away from the flag and made a clutch par. That was the tournament right there.

I'm saying the perceived pressure and the way Tiger managed his game is the reason the other guys made doubles to hand it to him. They couldn't handle the intimidation factor that Tiger brings to the table.

Tiger also won by one shot because that's all he needed to win by. He played very conservatively down the stretch once he got the buffer. He took no chances and played ultra safe. I think he had a couple of shots in reserve if he needed them, but like the total professional he is he took no risks and did what he had to do.

I think he wins another Masters if he stays healthy, he is just too good there. The Open is always in play as well and he is playing at a level you need to win a US Open. No chance he is retiring, he is going to ride out his health as long as he can and I think his game now translates more to staying healthy.

Once I choke down this mouth full of feathers and crow, I have something to say.

there...

OK... Tiger... well done! I didn't think it would happen. It was good to see and even though I thought he would be in the mix, I for sure thought the window of Major opportunity had closed. I was wrong.

Now... I would love to hear what the sawed-off know-it all from Texas on the golf channel has to say. I hope to god, thousands have sent him dead crows, a knife and fork.

His last one? The ink isn't even dry and Tiger is again done.

He was close in two majors last year, took the Tour Championship, and now The Masters.

I'd tend to say he was back, for a while at least. Emotional pain means nothing to Tiger. He eats it. Physical pain, well that is a different matter. If he had shown signs of physical pain, then I might lean towards more an end than a new beginning.

F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote that “there are no second acts in American lives.” Well that Fitzgerald dood never met Tiger....
