So according to this SI article https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.si.com/golf/2019/04/14/masters-ratings-increase-five-percent-tiger-woods, the 3rd round got a 6.0 rating.

I don’t quite understand how tv ratings work, but from what I gather that number is a percentage of total US TV households (about 300 million). So it looks like the 3rd round got around 18 million viewers.

Sunday then has to be higher, at least 20 million probably peaking at least to 25 million as Tiger’s momentum was growing. And that’s just TVs. Streaming was probably massive as well. I had to work today and most people had a window open on their workstations streaming the Masters.

I would say the ending was the most watched Masters in 20 or 30 years in the UK and Ireland because instead of being on until 11 or 12 at night because of the time zone, the early finish meant it ended on prime time on BBC, free terrestrial television. All those people that might have went to bed for work would have still been up and alert. It was especially great if you had kids, and you can only imagine all the children that will be inspired to play golf after that. A great moment for the game.

CBS doesn’t make much money off Masters commercials, so as great as the ratings might be (minus the early morning start which isn’t ideal), they won’t be overcelebrating. 60 Minutes will get hurt since live Masters footage won’t lead into it.

Golf has receded but it's still massively larger than it was in the early 90s.

It isn't flatlining, it's returning to it's "normal" state. It was never a game for the masses in this country.

The highest rated morning golf broadcast in 34 years, Is that a joke stat?....Facts are the live broadcast was down a point from last year 7.7 from 8.7 last year and the rebroadcast did a 3.4. The tiger effect was very little to none, CBS has to be disappointed, when both broadcasts combined are just 2.4 points ahead of last years live final round with Reed winning

Adam Scotts pants, lol. I noted that too. Looks like he raided his grandfather's closet. It should be illegal for men to wear that many pleats.

Can't compare. It started at 9am on a sunday EST. That's **6am PT.** Even the superbowl ratings would get clipped hard if it started at those times.

Here,

https://www.golf.com/news/2019/04/15/masters-2019-sunday-tv-ratings-tiger-win/

"The final round peaked in the 2:15-2:30 p.m. ET time range, as viewership spiked to a **12.1** as Tiger earned his fifth green jacket and 15th major title. It’s the highest peak rating for the Masters since 2013."

And if it had been shown at 2pm-7pm EST, it would have been even higher.

I had a thing for Sue Ellen Mischke.

Do you remember who suggested she try on the bra?

The caddy!

One of the best exchanges is between Jackie Chiles and Kramer:

Jackie: What was your golf score, the last round you played...before your shoulder was injured?

Kramer: Three under par.

Jackie (impressed): Oooohhhh, three under par...That's what the professionals shoot, isn't it?

** Kramer: If they're lucky.**

if you want to rationalize it with 12.1 for 15 minutes, but it is what it is. Reeds live broadcast was 8.7 and Tigers was live broadcast was 7.7

Cool, freeze, the fact that it came on before 7am on a Sunday morning for half the country means nothing ; )
