Private Clubs in CT

I am interested in thoughts relating to New Haven Country Club, Country Club of Avon and Redding Country Club. I have an opportunity to bid on rounds at each and wondered which if any were "on't miss" and how they compared to each other. Appreciate any guidance

New Haven CC is very nice with a wonderful set of challenging greens. There are a lot of parallel running holes in the routing and when last I played it had a few too many trees but it is a nice if not spectacular classic course. Bt far, the best course in CT is The Course at Yale!

Having played Redding a couple times, I wouldn't say it is a can't miss. If invited to play for free on a random Tuesday, I don't know that I would burn a day of vacation for it. That's pretty much my definition of "can't miss".

I've heard good things about New Haven.

I believe New Haven CC had serious issues with their greens, but that was already a bunch of years ago. I remember liking the layout. It's a Willie Park, Jr course, so I'm partial to it (my favorite local course is Shuttle Meadow, also a Willie Park, Jr course).

BTW that locker room is a THROWBACK...like, The Greatest Game Ever Played type of locker room.

Played them all. Redding meh. New Haven is nice old school layout with excellent conditions (problems with greens was ? 6 years ago). I liked the routing of Avon and it's always in great shape. If I had to pick one ... NHCC. None are "can't miss".

Howdy, I’m a member at NHCC. Feel free if you’re interested in a home&home arrangement. I’d love to play a different course once in a while. In reference to one of the above posts, NHcC lost their greens to fungus prior to Jason Booth coming in as head greenskeeper. 2009 I believe as it was the last year Quinnipiac had a men’s golf team that called nh home. Also, the membership has undertaken the removal of tons of trees the last 2-3 years. It’s really improved the course quite a bit. I still consider Yale a more interesting layout, but I’ve been a member at both places and NHCC is clearly the better place to belong in my opinion.

It’s quite easy to play Yale as a guest. One of the easier “private” courses to get onto.

New Haven has my vote.
