Poulter waiting to congratulate Tiger. Sincere, or publicity hound???

I've always thought Poulter was a weenie, publicity hound. More style than substance.

I noticed after the Masters, Tiger's friends were waiting to congratulate him, and Poulter was there too. I couldn't help but think Poulter was there to get on camera and be part of the worldwide spectacle. Tiger hugged the other players, then when it came to Poulter, it was a mild handshake as if Tiger was thinking "why are you here???" .

Any thoughts on this???

I don't have a problem with it. Poulter was a contender until the 12th hole. I think he wanted to say congrats to a fellow 40 something on the win against the younger guys.

Poulter is a bit of a different bird, but I think you are reaching here. He was a contender, or nearly so, and stayed a few minutes to congratulate the winner. Does it have to be any deeper than that?

Poulter's also one of those guys who have so, so benefitted from the "Tiger Boom" in purses.

There was that story long time ago about Poulter showing up uninvited to Tiger's plane which was pretty funny. By funny I mean pathetic.

Poulter has profound respect for Tiger. I personally love that guy..

Other than blocking me on Twitter, I love Poulter for the fact that even he sees the absurdity of once saying that "One day it will just be [him] and Tiger." Still, it was that kind of self-confidence that he needed as a mere assistant club pro to make it on Tour and become a Ryder Cup legend. The dude has won like $40M and he and every guy out there knows that Tiger is the reason they make as much money as they do.

I thought he was sincere. Respectfully removed his hat. I didn't have a problem w/any of the guys who stuck around to congratulate him. It was an important day in golf history and I think a lot of the guys, while disappointed they didn't win, were glad Tiger did if they couldn't. And I think they were glad to have been a part of it.

I read it in Hank Haney's book. Poulter showed up uninvited at Tiger's plane and bummed a flight home with Tiger and Hank. While on the plane, Tiger texted Hank and said, "Can you believe this d!ck mooched a ride on my plane?"

Well at least he didn't reject him from the plane ride. That's pretty gutsy of Poulter to show up like that. Worked out for him in that situation, lol

Probably catching a plane with one of the other guys... however, being in the group ahead it's not as if he waited around long.

They obviously aren't buddy buddy but I think it was a sign of respect and maybe even mild admiration on Poulter's behalf. Nothing wrong with it.

The plane thing is funny though.

This is a reach. Can't a guy just congratulate a friend/competitor without being judged about it?

Mickelson wasn't there, Rory wasn't there, Spieth wasn't there, why not judge those guys instead?

I think he was genuine. I think Tiger impressed everyone on Sunday. And Tiger's new found humbleness, he is more human to everyone. All professional athletes know how hard it is to do what they do. When someone does someone in their sport like Tiger did, you have to give it to the guy.

Well . . . . . WRONG-O

Except for a little half-reach hug with Koepka, there were NO HUGS (did I say NO HUGS?) shared with ANY of the other players up by the clubhouse. Some little finger touching, slaps, blah blah, actually other than Koepka, the most meaningful exchange was between . . . . . . Tiger and Poulter.

But let's make up whatever supports today's narrative.

I've said before that I profoundly admire Pouler's self made success and his working toward that goal. His tweeting like a teenager? yeah not so much.

But I generally think twitter needs to die in a fire anyways, so...

Little girl looking for attention again eh... Seriously though, I would imagine he was genuinely wanting to congratulate the guy. Was a heck of a tourney and Poulter must have been proud to be a part of it.

Does anyone actually know what Poulter and Tiger's relationship is? Maybe he genuinely likes and respects the guy....

I'm not the biggest Poulter fan, and i think sometimes he does grandstand a bit. But Tiger winning a Masters like he did was a monumental occasion. Not crazy to think Poulter wanted to congratulate him

And they had just played together the day before. Poulter shows some class - OP flat out lies about what happened to take shots at him.

MAy have been more a function of golfing and talking with Tiger on saturday? I think a lot of golfer are excited both about Tiger and the prospect of golfing against some version of “Tiger”.

Poulter is a good dude. I've always liked him. He just gets hated on for beating the US in Ryder Cups. He's one of the more entertaining characters in pro golf these days.

Also. I actually watched the episode where he said that about he and Tiger. It was hilarious and laced with sarcasm. Most of the people who have a problem with what he said never saw the show and are just regurgitating exaggerated talking points.

Just my opinion.

I actually like Poulter. One of the few fuzzy foreigners (Justin Rose being another) whose bagpipe I would not fill with Wheatena.
