Exciting Weekend - 1st 18 hole non caddy tournament round

This weekend should be fun/exciting. He is finally graduating to play with the older kids- 12-15yr w/o a caddy.

My plan is to walk ahead with headphones and enjoy a nice spring round of golf. If the round is going bad then will hit the club house grill and drink some beer smiley:

In all seriousness, he will not have any issue with the golf aspect of me not being around (ie, yardage, shot, green, club selection, score, rules). He has played plenty of 9 hole tournaments w/o me but this is 18 holes, long yardages and older kids.

FWIW - my current role as a caddy is to remind him to hydrate, eat and take a leak!

Is it considered giving advice if I ask him to eat or get a drink?

The current plan is not say a word during the round and talk after the round. But curious what is considered advice?

I checked with the local PGA official, I am allowed to ask for water, food and emergencies.. although I have no plans to ask.

This will be learning experience for both of us.. I need to be a supportive dad taking notes from far, while he needs to learn.

In reality, I will probably standing far away with hands on hips and he forgetting everyone routine we discussed ??

That said, I love watching him play and hope that never changes!

Not sure if you live where it gets hot but making sure they drink lots of water and gatorade is very important. Here in florida in the summer it dangerous if the kids are there not drinking too much you also have to help look for big gators on some courses too.

Most of the parents just makes sure the kids drink and are safe beyond that they keep track of their kids scores and what they need to work on.

We are in the north east.. not hot, no gators just wet conditions and cold spring weather!

Southwest here... 91 degrees today. 18 hole NO SPECTATORS tournament this weekend. My job is to hand off a new Gatorade and hot dog at the turn. I might even work on my own putting for a while but there's also a racetrack nearby so I might go lay down some coin on the ponies.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Gatorade is one of the worst things a person can drink on the course. Too much sugar in the beverage. Can cause a sugar rush for a hole and then can bring the energy level down.

Water, Muscle Milk without sugar, Nuts (easily digestible), jerky.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

I am not sure I agree with you this. You need to replace electrolytes for sure. Many options beyond gatorade as well. You may not like Gatorade but Gatorade is easily obtained pretty much anywhere and works better than just drinking water alone.

There are plenty of products out there that do the same thing without the sugar attached. G2 isn't bad, but the original Gatorade and Powerade are flooded with un-needed sugars that can cause a low at the end of the round. I like Smart Water. Does the same exact thing as Gatorade.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.
