Birdieball putting green speed?

I'm looking to buy a Birdieball putting mat and am torn on which speed to get (10-11 or 11-13). I will have holes at each end so I can putt with and against the grain. For those of you that have one, which speed did you select and are you happy?

I went for the 10-11 an am pleased ... I was told putting against the grain was VERY slow.

I went with the 10-11. I figured that’s what most of the courses I play are set up at. 11-13 would get you more towards the tour level greens I think.

Thanks for the inputs. I went for the 10-11. Called the pro shop and my home course normally runs around 10 except for special events. FYI, I was told the two numbers (i.e. 10-11 & 11-3) in the speed represent the against\with grain stimps.

I have the 11-13 and it's lightning. Id' go 10-11

just curious what went into your decision in getting birdie ball vs competitors like big moss or breeds putting mat? looking to get a mat soon too and have heard mixed reviews on birdie ball

I got double layer 4ft by 16ft with the slowest speed possible and its still quick compared to my private club bent greens. If you get single layer and anything beside the slowest it will be lightning.

My buddy didn't like his birdieball at the single layer thickness 1/2 inch. But I have the 1 inch double layer and its great. I putt 12 footers into the grain and 5 foots back down grain.

I also opted for the double thickness after reading reviews.

Agree with 10-11being perfect. They have amazing customer service. I wasn't thrilled with the size of the first green I recieved. They shipped a replacement before I was off the phone, 2 days before shipped the 1st one back. Even threw in some extra shims etc.

I have 11-13 and wish I’d have gone 10-11. It’s just too fast and not realistic to the courses I play regularly.

Honestly, I'm not a Breed fan and have heard good things about the Birdie Ball. I didn't do any real research. I really like the green but have to exchange for a 3' wide one. My son wants to keep it in his hallway. The 10-11 is right in line with the speeds at my club. If I went with the slowest speed, I would want the 1" depth. The 1/2" depth would be off-putting to me on the slower greens.

I’ve got a 12x4 BirdieBall, single depth, set up on hardwood floor.  Worked all winter with it, and have been consistently 18-36” short out on the course spring/early summer. Soooo frustrating. 

Out of curiosity, I rigged up a stimpmeter, and couldn’t keep the balls on the 12’ green.  Did a “half-stimp” where you shorten the drop then double the measurement.  I’m getting 14-16 over a 24 ball test. 

This is against the grain and AFTER taking a fairly stiff brush and standing the grain up as they recommend.

Any further ideas for slowing this thing down?  I dont recall which model I ordered, but it’s exceeding their fastest speed regardless. About ready to toss it and go BigMoss. 

I’d try a stiff bristle broom used aggressively. I use a short nap wallpaper brush on mine which is stiff 1/2” bristle and it will definitely make the nap stand up.
