Recommendations for a 7 footer

I play with a guy who is 7 ft tall. He plays pretty standard clubs (I think +2"), with the exception of a long putter. They force him into a uncomfortable position, scrunched up and bent over at address that pretty much take his hips out of the swing. I understand the response will be "get fitted," and I would recommend the same to someone of normal proportions, but this is extreme and I do not think there are many fitters anywhere who have dealt with a lot of people this tall. I am 6'4" and play with people who are 6'6", so I know taller people can use fairly standard clubs (an extra inch or so at most), but at his height even a 45.5" driver looks like me playing with a plastic kids toy. I was wondering if anyone knew someone who was this tall and what they played or if they had any ideas.

I was thinking of recommending the cobra one length irons at 42 inches or so.

I must say that the tallest that I’ve ever Played with was Bill Russell, who at 6’10” actually wasn’t a bad player(12ish~), and I believe that his clubs were +1.5”

I played a decent amount with my buddies dad. Bill Bunting (UNC basketball player), he was 6'8 or 9" and played +1 to +1.5 inch clubs.

Find really light shafts if playing that over length, will be really heavy if not. lie angles will be up therefore forged will be easy to bend that much. I would find a big headed forged club, head would look pretty small that far away at least that is what I presume.

Well, I am not 7’0 but I am 6’9” so closer than most. My irons are +2” and +5* upright. I think getting the lie angle correct is often an overlooked spec for us tall people. I play off an 8.5 hcp and always bring my clubs if I travel. If I have the choice of renting normal clubs or not playing, I usually choose not playing. It just isn’t fun.

I play Ping clubs specifically because the offer the maroon dot spec. Never been let down.

My dad is 6 10 and just went to a PING fitting... he ended up in irons that were 3.5 inches over... Not sure how much they changed the lie! He also ended up in a 3w with a 43 inch driver shaft (And I believe a 48 inch driver). Not sure if your friend has the resources to get out to Arizona to get fitted, but my dad is pretty excited about his set... I'm looking forward to trying to hit his 7 iron when I see him in May.

Tom Wishon had a story about George Gervin who was tall, but also had really long arms...

Don't know if anyone mentioned it, but going to 3/8" increments will help a bit by making the short irons a bit less...short.

I know Tom Wishon has experience fitting tall people. Maybe send him a message. The man is the most knowledgeable club fitter on this board.
