Head chipped from grip/shaft change... what do you do?

iyi4iyian

Recommended Posts

I brought in my brand new m6 3 wood to have the grip and shaft changed... when I go pick it up, there is one clear paint chip and multiple marks on the head. Of course the golf associate is not there. I'm super annoyed, what should I do?

In the age of the Internet, some of us have lost the courage to work it out with the place of business before resorting to the Internet for advice.

i spoke with the manager and she doesn't think it's them who did it. i got the whole "how do i know my associate did this". they said they will call taylormade and see what they will do but knowing taylormade since it's purely cosmetic I'm expecting nothing done

excellent guess, how'd you know! DSG...its unreal, I wish there was a golf store within 50 miles of me so I have a choice where to go

No way man. If it was new and didn’t have that damage no way would I allow that. Talk to the Store Manager. Then District. Then call whatever their national number is. I wouldn’t let it go.

That always scares me. I'm pretty sure a store that changed the grip on a Scotty Cameron putter I had years ago put a big dent in the shaft. I didn't notice it until I had it on the course.

If the store manager won't help you, I'd call/email the corporate. Same as the poster says above.

Also call/email Taylormade and tell them what happened. It's possible they could defend you.

If you have to, go for the social media approach. Take pictures of the club and post it with your story on Twitter and Facebook. Tag DSG. If you get traction there's a really good chance you'll hear from someone that suddenly wants to make it right.

You made this way harder on yourself by leaving when you picked up the club. Now the store has reason to doubt how this happened. You should have elevated this matter upon receipt of your club and not left until it was resolved to your satisfaction. It didn't matter if the associate who re-gripped the club was there or not. Post a pic of the damage.

just an update on the whole situation...i went back in and spoke with the manager...i left the club at the store and they are going to call Taylormade to see if "they can work something out". i said I'm only going to be happy with a new head that doesn't have a chip in it because i paid for a service and they messed up my club. they said they'll call me by Friday, we will see what happens. what a hassle!

The sad part in today's culture is that you can post a picture of the poor service on Twitter and they will respond with a better solution than what a store manager will do. It's just crazy. Luckily we have a guy at our dick's that use to own his own place and is "retired". He does a great job and I always ask for him. I've done a lot of stuff there out of convenience and call ahead to make sure he's working.

take your tool and swap out the head for a new one. then go over to the bag section, find a nice looking cart bag and drop a deuce in it while no one is looking. frontier justice!

Yes I do realize that. But it's a matter of fact and if you win often times the defendant must pay the plaintiff. You do realize that dont you?

LOL small claims court and lawsuits.......

From what I recall, I believe DSG/GG has some wording in paperwork you sign that basically makes it difficult to hold them liable for damages that occur during club building, unless its egregious. With that being said, leaving the store not noticing basically makes it a lock they can skirt any liability. Hope it works out for you though

I like the dump in a bag idea. Way more than doing nothing initially before running it by your internet buddies.

There's also this thing called opportunity cost, the time wasted going against a big corp just isnt worth it for a club head.

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

Guaranteed that’s exactly what happened. Inspect the tip of the shaft they pulled. Bet it’s toasty.

Posted this before. But I once had wedge shafts changed while on vacation ( MB). Walked in to find the wedge shaft logos face up. Lol. So I politely asked him to pull and try again. Even offered to pay for it twice since I assumed nobody would want a tour issue DG logo shaft , logo up. My bad . Lol. So he says ok. ( pga superstore ). I went to hit balls while he did so. Walked back over to see him with the grip end clamped in the vise and he’s trying hard to twist the shaft around. Lol. Epoxy had been sitting 20 min or more. So long since dried. Then I look and see the 2nd wedge has had the shaft turned around and the grip is chewed almost in half. I just walked away. And found the manager and calmly said “ so. Do you want to ship me a new pair of shafts and grips , or do I have to ask someone else if that’s what you want to do. “. That was after explaining to her what I just saw. Luckily she said “ I’ll be happy to send them to you “ and took down my info. It’s crazy what goes on in a lot of places. At home I do all of my own work. And I’d bet anything that head hit the floor.

That's kind of insulting, in the age of the Internet we have more tools at our disposal. We are more evolved, and we seek more data on a situation we are in. So in essence we have more power to exert over those who do us wrong.

He is just seeking more information before he acts, so he can act in the best way possible.

Ironically, if the associate who changed his grip had only looked at more YouTube videos! Haha

OP I suggest you start changing your own grips. It takes all of 15 minutes with the right grip station setup in your garage or man study.

Your post pretty much proves the point you are attempting to disprove. What kind of “tools at our disposal “ and what “data” do you need to collect in order to tell a manager the club tech damaged the club while working on it? You don’t need to hop on the internet for all of life’s problems. Thinking for yourself on the fly is actually ok.
