WRX Spotlight: Veylix Mansion shafts

WRX_Spotlight

Recommended Posts

**Product:** Veylix Mansion shafts (EXP-7.FM5/EXP-5.FM5)

**Pitch: From Veylix:** "Graphene's tensile strength measures at an amazing 130Gpa (vs 7.0Gpa for T1100G and 15Gpa for the highest modulus prepregs and pitch fibers), yet is lighter than paper. Not yet patented, the Veylix Graphene Jacket used in Mansion is built from 2 and 3nm graphene platelets of at least 80% pure carbon and allows for new distributions of weight and strength and the highest carbon content that a shaft material can contain. Veylix Mansion isn't just a series of prototypes, it's the holotype for a new species of golf shafts and this is just the beginning."

Our take on the Veylix Mansion shaft

If you have never heard of Veylix before, don’t worry you aren’t alone! Veylix is a newer brand in the competitive shaft market, but they have a long history of creating great shafts. JC Beeson was a shaft designer at Matrix before starting Veylix in 2012. Veylix is typically on the cutting edge of high-end materials for its shafts, and the Mansion is just the latest shaft in that line. Mansion uses 40T graphite and then covers it with a 2-3 nanometer graphene jacket.

I’m actually gaming one right now. I’m not the best at reviewing shafts but it’s very smooth and stable regardless of how you go after it. Launch seems mid and appears to be pretty low spin for sure.

It looks absolutely stunning in my TS3. Haven’t had it on a monitor, but my buddy and I are similar in distance and I’m right there with his TS3/Pro Orange combo. I have the 7.SM5 model. Might be moving on from it to try the new rogue.

5 series is pretty stable for something that light. The 7 series spins more than expected, truthfully. They were overall kind of weak performers compared to the Rome and Alpina lines so my shop ultimately decided to pull them after 1 sale in 8 months. Certainly look cool and feel nice but they lacked that extra pizazz to get them out the door.

Love to hear more

the 5 seems like has a higher flight / more active tip?

I NEED spin, so I like that

what else make them weak performers?

I Really appreciate this

Nothing really. They aren't built any differently than say the Aldila Synergy 50 (with Graphene), and that seemed to be a good success for Callaway in the Rogue woods. Shafts are funny, sometimes they can be great on paper and just don't materialize.

I recently got fitted into the 5, never felt such a stable shaft in such a light weight. When I get the club, will update.
