I just worked on this with my instructor. For me it is a matter of feeling like I am pulling the club around me rather than swinging the club and turning my hips. As for keeping your hands in front that is harder, at least it was for me. I spent several weeks and lessons working on hand position.

My instructor had me hitting 3/4 shots while really concentrating on pushing my hands forward. He told me to go play with that swing for a while until I really got that hand position grooved in. Last lesson he said my hand position is looking good. I still could get better but at least my new flick doesn't have the clubhead in front. At worst they are even or just hands in front.

This may sound crazy but MY feeling is that my sternum is rotating left of the target at the same time my right hand is pushing down and back. It's the opposite feel of Jack Nicklaus who said he is trying to get his hands to outrun his buttons on his shirt. I have always pulled the handle and got steep and this feeling is the only thing that really shallowed.

I kind of like the way he explains it. Very similar to all the other modern teachers but he keeps it really simple.

Actually seeing his swing from this view it seems so much more simple than a caddie view. Rory is just a good athlete, with a lot of natural speed, strength and flexibility with good range of motion.

The answer to have good fundamentals, and be a good athlete.

I feel the majority of the shaft shallowing for me comes from trail elbow chasing belly button. Just that motion seems to lower the clubhead down behind me. Rory does it big time.

Many instructors now seem to focus on the early down hinge, including Monte in his latest video. If I remember well then Joe Mayo started this a few years ago based on Sasho McKenzies work. Dana Dahlquist was an early implementer and also Tyler Ferrell started recently with more focus on an early down hinge.

Interesting how these things evolve. This was previously called casting and a big No No.

Seems the lower body is starting first...and...at strike the body is in that C position.

let the clubhead trace down the imaginary wall to start your backswing. It will keep you on plane and shallowing will happen naturally

The choreography of his body is incredible. The knees alone. He squats, then rotates and extends them (pushes from the ground) at the same time. Guy maintains great angles everywhere. It's a great swing. Don't know if it just camera position but somewhat surprised how far his shoulders and hands extend from body at setup. Really unloads from the inside and has a lot of right arm flex stored at impact. Great video.
