Winter and early spring golf trip destinations

Always take a few trips early in the year. Just trying to see if there's a hideaway I haven't been to.

Places I've been before

Scottsdale, Tuscon, Palm Springs, San Diego, Miami / South Florida, Orlando, Myrtle Beach (definitely a gamble in the winter), Las Vegas

Places I'm considering:

Jacksonville (TPC Sawgrass now that they overseed), Fort Myers/Tampa, San Francisco, RTJ trail in April, St. George Utah Late April/early May

I'm a planner so always plan in early summer for the next winter.

Any other outside the box suggestions, especially for January and February?

I've been eyeing Branson, Mo / Northern Arkansas for some time, but haven't gotten out there. May temps are in the upper 70's, and I don't believe the humidity is quite as oppressive as the mid-summer. January and February would be dicey, though.

Big Cedar lodge is awesome. I think it is very pricey for being in Southern Missouri. I am going to wait it to go again until Tiger's course opens up, with that and the new Coore Crenshaw that just opened, which looks awesome, plus the previous it is going to be a top golf location in the Midwest. I think it is a Spring/Fall destination though, it is very hot and humid in that area during the summer and they have a winter.

I always throw out this suggestion, even though you will have a slight weather concern. But Kiawah Island has the best winter deal in golf. I go every year, $300 - 2 rounds of golf plus a cabin. Both can be played on The Ocean Course or you can mix it up.

You mentioned Tampa - Streamsong is as fun as it gets and you can also check out World Woods GC. Tampa area would probably be my pick for January February golf if I had to go somewhere, for those courses. Not much after those 5 though.

For out of the box....Bandon Dunes. Not warm, but you can get very pleasant days mid winter at Bandons. I'd assume the average highs for that time of year is in the mid 50s. But the average is never much higher than that at any point of the year. And it is a deal. If you are looking for sunshine and warmth though maybe not the pick.

I've been to the RTJ Trail in March, the week after the clocks change, the last two years and had great weather but I am extraordinarily lucky when it comes to travel weather for golf trips.

NorCal / Monterey can actually be pretty nice in Jan and Feb.

Doing Bahamas in January so will probably keep the rest domestic unless its a really good deal.

But will definitely look into it for the future.

Like you I often times travel during the winter as I need a break from our winter. I'm about 30 minutes from Big Cedar and would agree with others that it is a spring-fall location. If you come in the winter you may get lucky and have a decent day to play but you also may not be able to get on the course at all.

I've been to the bay area in December/January and never had issues with weather. We are actually looking to go back again this year over new years. You may need pants and a jacket but you will be able to play. We tried Scottsdale last new years and the weather was so cold I didn't even take my clubs but that was abnormal for them. Central Florida is another good bet with plenty of options.

I'm usually combining my golf with a family vacation though so my needs are probably different than several others since it is usually 1-2 days of golf and 3-4 days of family stuff.

I visited San Diego in February 2017 and 2018. This February I was in the LA area. I wouldn't say there's a lot of great public golf around the area, but there are plenty of excellent courses. Traffic is a headache, but if you stay in one general area there's enough golf for a long weekend.

For early Spring I would consider southern Mississippi. Like the RTJ, it's very good golf at affordable prices.

come on down to alabama ... don't have to wait till early spring ... rtj is hardly ever closed ... few days here and there that don't break 30 ... that's about it ... nothing like walking 18 in 35 degree weather ... great excuse for a flask ...

We go to Cabo and Dominican Republic. Both have world class golf courses and perfect weather in Jan and Feb.
