I'm back baby !!! Early this year, woo woo

Recommended Posts

Finally a warm sunny day in greater Toronto

Third round in CANADA this year played today. Fired a tasty 72 that should've been 5 shots better. 73.8/138 at 6600 soaked yards. 13/18 GIR and the missed greens were within a couple of yards of the surface.

Missed birds inside 10 feet on 4, 5, 9, 11 and missed a 3 foot par putt on 13 .. slow and fuzzy surfaces and some punching as well.

Two bad par 5 bogeys .. one a topped 7w and the second my lone missed fairway when I was 1 step into a lateral on the 18th.

My proximity was nuts for me, especially since on most holes I was 30 yards back of normal. And my iron set is a motley crew at the moment, still nailing down the 8-P.

Normally it takes me 3-4 weeks to find my groove ... hopefully a good omen

My other less than humble brag has to be two near aces in one round ... both 8" behind the cup!

Ok, got that off my chest ... sorry, GOT on pause and filling time

Man, at 51, cold and damp and north wind = no turny for this fat boy ... results are sloppy and slappy ball striking and high 70's (first two attempts). Of course round 1 was a team win at Opening Men's night at my second club, so not all bad

The Apex 7 demo irons not in the bag today fwiw

Today I dreamed of Titleist mb's in 8-PW to link the tmb's to the old school Vokey's

Nice round man, I got 27 holes in this weekend, for 13 outings so far this calendar year. Yesterday we played a new course and it was super wet and sloppy. But down here in Niagara it seems we get a bit of a head start over other areas of the province.

Good playing Cards! I'm the same age as you and have really noticed a significant drop off in my mobility and speed when temps get to mid 50s or lower. Becomes very obvious when I'm playing with some of the younger guys. I keep up with them off the tee in warmer temps, but drop off quite a bit when it's cold. Just a few years ago I had no problems and always considered myself a "mudder." Antway, I'm happy to be in sunny & warm FL pretty much full-time now. Hope you have a great season!

The 90s was the absolute best decade to grow up in. I still roll around town in my almost 40s and blast classic hip hop!!

Also, good round!! looking to get around par this year myself!! I started using a handicapping app called the grint to see if it helps me improve.

Alright, the steady ship keeps sailing.

76 yesterday in a provincial 2 man qualifier. Better ball score of 72. 12th of 40 teams, 7 got in. Course under water, first 11 holes in a monsoon. The worst is my partner had his irons on radar, missed 7 birdies inside 12 feet. Greens like shag carpets.

The two kids we played against had a total age of 42 and we were at 104!

Won my opening Men's night tonight with a 75, $300 bag going towards some muscle back short irons.

Winter cap dropping like a stone

Swing changes paying off

Guys try my new swing !

KEEP THE CLUB OUTSIDE THE HANDS !!!!!!!! And lift weights !

76 in the cold and rain Wed for another win. T1 with a pesky NHL'r.

72 last night in the cold at my other home club ... for another indy win and a team 2nd place out of 24 teams (4 guys, 1 gross & 1 net count). The pro shop gift certs are piling up. I may see some 0211's at the end of the tunnel

I should've gone back to the cut years ago. Memories of my youth !!!!! Chasing distance with sling draws killed me

Downside: Giving up way too many strokes to a motley crew of bandits starting today in our Friday afternoon money games

  • 2 weeks later...

Another Men's night win tonight. I let an incredible round get away. 5 under thru 12 with a bogey on the 3rd. Went bogey-bogey-double on 13-14-15. Birdied 16 to get back to two under. Missed 15 foot birds on 17 and 18. Seven birdies today.

The nutty thing was I made four 2's on our par 3's. Two shots to 6", one to 2.5 feet and I made a 30 footer on our 7th. Two closest to the pin wins.

Big 2 man match tomorrow. May have peaked early.

My cap is 50% of where it was 6 weeks back

Anyways, don't want to keep doing the brag thing but hoping some players out there might consider some swing re-tooling. Keep the club in front of you, hit cuts !!!

Great playing Cards! I'm running on a nice streak myself. Seven under total in my last 5 rounds which is unbelievably good for me.

I'm actually sitting at the bar at Streamsong waiting to play the Blue course. We played the Black yesterday and I shot 71 (par 73) with 3 three putts which is inevitable out there on those crazy greens.

I'm actually scared I could end up in "plus" territory after the next revision. Will be cool, but won't be able to win much cash as a plus...lol!

Good shooting!

We've had good weather here on the West Coast, but unlike you my first few rounds have been a tragedy! All the hard work on the range have amounted to awful ball striking. Auto correct corrected it to ball stroking, maybe I should stick to that!

We need to play one day sir.

Trying to get down to better than my lowest cap ever. FWIW I was tourney scratch when I played university golf in the early 90's. I was at my best a +0.4. That manual card is somewhere in the basement. Goal is +1. Will be tough. I actually think I am a better ball striker now, the difference is I used to putt like Crenshaw (using a 8813) and I could up and down from a garbage can back in the day. Didn't hurt that I could play or practice every day

G410LST ordered yesterday. Debating new irons ... blueprints, ap2's or PXG 0211 (I'm drowning in pro shop gift certs)

the wild thing from last nights round, with 14 of 18 GIR's was the avg proximity ... on those 14 holes it averaged 11 feet. When 5 birdies come from 6", 6", 10", 12" and 30" feet it sure helps

This was with two 30 foot putts and one 40 footer ... I made two of those btw (and the 40 footer was a circus putt, no business draining that)

Kept the good play going with a 2 under 70 at Streamsong Blue today! Ballstriking not as pure as yesterday, but I played conservatively and putted well, which was surprising given my wine consumption last night!

I too have a G410 LST coming thanks to shop credit. My Max will ne hard to beat for reliability, but a little lower spin should gain me some yardage.

Yessir...we will have to play! Maybe next winter when you're back in FL?

3 three putts is pretty good on Black. You can hit all 18 greens on that course, and not break 80. Hard to miss a green in reg though.
