Copper Ball Marker Blanks

I have seen a bunch of these stamped copper ball markers online and was wondering where do you get the thicker copper blanks? I ordered some from Amazon that looked thick, but they ended up being really, really thin. Anyone know where to get some of those thick blanks?

Most of those that I have seen use copper round stock and cut to thickness.

I grabbed some decent blanks of eBay awhile back. Can't recall the exact thickness, but they were pretty solid. The catch was that they were still pretty raw, so they needed to be tumbled before they could be used. Not hard, I just haven't found the time to get a tumbler and figure this out.

I found his site searching for blanks and you are right, does some really cool stuff! I just bought a stamp set and want to try my hand at a few though.

Another option is to find a local machine shop and see if they can make what you want.

Look for 14 gauge or better, tons of places on the net

So can I just sand these by hand? I don’t have a belt sander or tumbler. What would I Use? Want to give this a try.

I got blanks of all types from Bopper Metal Supplies on etsy and they were great. 14 gauge worked best for mine, and I had best results using pewter which is a bit softer and easier to work with

I also recommend getting polishing cloths. They make a big difference and make the paintfill pop much better.

I just got this in from Caleb. I asked him to have this golden knights marker for me. Came out awesome!!

I stamp some ballmarkers from time to time, I get them from metalremnants.com, Use 10 gauge copper and brass. Here's a copper one I stamped and torched.

I just ordered 10 one inch 10 gauge blanks to play around with.

Very cool. How do you sand /buff? I don’t have a belt sander so would want to know how you sand by and and what grit sandpaper you use. Appreciate any suggestions.

Also what size stamps are you using? You buying on amazon, eBay, or?? I have letters and number set from young bros but I’m Looking for other specialized logo stamps like skull/crossbones and some others. Thanks!

I sanded this one by hand, you can get a pack of various grit sandpaper off Amazon, mine ran from like 400-3000. Stamps I used on this one were Young Bros, the characters are quarter inch, but I also have a smaller cheap set from Harbor Freight that I used when starting out and for longer phrases, I can't recall the size on those though.

Haven't tried to find any special characters yet, but I know that there are jewelry-making stores online that carry custom stamps in the shape of states and things. I would bet the quality is not great though

I bought a few special characters for jewelry and they are fine for copper and other soft metals. They do wear out pretty quick from doing wedges and irons.
