Odyssey White Hot Pro #3

Recommended Posts

I was looking through the golf section of a store in my small hometown tonight. It's your typical sporting goods section in a big box store with some decent balls, but pretty much everything else is just meh. There is a small section with some older model Odyssey putters that rarely are purchased. One of the headcovers that I removed revealed a new in plastic White Hot Pro #3. The plastic looks tight, so this particular putter hasn't been tested much if at all.

No price was shown, so I had them ring it up and the price proved they were just trying to get rid of it at $109.00.

I've seen where this putter is going for well over it's original retail due to use by Reed and Fleetwood.

It's not really my style of putter, but if anything, I feel like I could respectfully flip it for a few extra bucks and pay for the couple boxes of balls I picked up.

Am I missing something and there's a particular model of WHP #3 putter that Fleetwood and Reed use? I'm not too familiar with Odyssey. Is too good to be true, or did I just finally hit a little stroke of luck? I spend way more than I should on this hobby of mine, and rarely does anything show up for a true deal. Thanks, guys.

Not that it’s a putter that suits my style, but I’ve wondered - is there any difference in performance, or just cosmetic differences? Do the inserts have a different feel, or is the finish substantially different? Or is the older model sought after strictly because of collectibility?

Its absolutely ridiculous. I just seen one at Sport Chek in Edmonton for 179 (had a jumbo grip which makes the price a little higher) but in my opinion two different putters with different feel.

Completely different feel and finish. Also not many of the original made. The new 2.0 ones can be found almost anywhere.

Can anyone highlight the difference in the insert? There is a 2.0 I found locally. They don't have a practice green to test on so don't really know about the feel. I love the shape but if it's a spongy insert I probably won't like it.

I didn't find the 2.0 to be overly soft when I rolled it.

I came across an original WHP #3 on used rack at GG.. rolled some and really liked the feel so I had to pick it up since it costed next to nothing. Only problem is this thing is so upright that the previous owner must have putted with the ball on the toe, and I am talking about the toe on your foot, not the putter.

IMHO the 2.0 is considerably softer than the original. Worth a try though, and still a very good $99 putter if you like a really soft putter.

I flipped a bunch of the 2.0 models on ebay a couple months ago and made a lot of money on them. I was very forthright in the listings, but people still paid as much as $300 each. As far as finish, I also have an original and there was no difference at all. Both have a charcoal to black pvd finish. The 2.0 insert was a tad softer, but overall there's no performance difference. The original and 2.0 both sold at around the same original price as well, it's not like the original was a $300 milled putter. It was just somewhat hard to find and then Reed won the Masters with one and the price went excessively high.

I find the finish on my original (my wife's actually) to be more of a gunmetal to deep gray finish, whereas the new 2.0 is a deep black. I also find the original insert to be considerably more firm.

As for flipping, nothing wrong with capitalism if you're honest and up front. Fools and their money are often parted.
