Practice with Western Boots?

Dumb idea or is it?

I find myself wearing my Dan Post boots nearly all the time owing to their comfort and what not. The other day, not wanting to change to golf shoes, I simply started my practice session and discovered the boots gave me a much better and stable platform. The high (Cuban) heels automatically puts more weight towards your toes and the high shanks guard against swaying. Now, I am not advocating wearing them during a round, but for practice, I find them beneficial. Just another whacky idea of mine, but I often have those.

My Dad wore cowboy boots every day of his life, and even he did not try to play golf in them.

I like heavy shoes, used to practice with steel toe non-slip heavy work shoes, ground foundation was solid, so almost same idea. Don't think I would like being on toes though with the cowboy boots.

not for everybody, but you don't know if you don't try. I would never actually "play"though, just like I am sure that Sam Snead wouldn't do a round bare foot. Actually, you are not on your toes per sei, it just forces you to maintain balance. Like any "drill". Even those doing super speed training and swinging all out are a bit more controlled during real play, but that drill will increase your swing speed.

They should be required footwear for any tournament in Texas.

A senior guy at our course, who shot in the 70's most of his life, either plays barefoot, or in house slippers. He says it keeps him from swinging too hard. I'll run the cowboy boots question past him the next time I see him. They would look great with shorts, especially if you had a pair of striped white tube socks peeking out of the top a bit.

I live out in the country in the woods, drive a Ford F150 with the tailgate down, and love to shoot my bow in the backyard, but even I don’t wear cowboy boots when I play golf.

One of my worst experiences in a sand bunker was when my ball landed in the heel print of a cowboy boot.

The high heel is the opposite of what you’d want in the golfswing.

Now, you throw a backpack into the equation, and I'm sold.

Practice the golf swing wearing heavy book bags and cowboy boots??? This is what WRX has come to. I suppose that's what happens when you ban all of the villains. Good lord

All kidding aside, If cowboy boots help you play better, wear em to practice, and play in. Please don't show up looking like I suggested in my previous post though.

well, concerning my very questionable paradigm buster, quite by coincidence, I learned that several boot companies make western boots with spikes. They use the female sockets for removal. "Y'all kin google it, if'n youve a mind to". fwiw, I am still PRACTICING with them. One reference is Justin Boots.

I've got a pair of Dan Post black lizards that I break out every once in a while, and wore Tony Lamas when I was a trucker. I think I'll dig a pair out of the closet and wear em the next time I play.
