Moving from Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound to ???

I've loved the MCC but I'm not gonna swallow $10 a grip when replacing every 30 rounds plus practice. I've played tour velvets but it seems the durability isn't always great on them.

Any suggestions on transitioning from the MCC to something on the Lamkin lines? Or how about the Avon Pro D2X? I just think paying $10 a grip is nuts, especially when I first started playing them at about $5-6 around almost 10 years ago.

Tour Velvet's last a long time if you keep them clean. There are many different threads about how to clean the grips but I've had great success using a good degreasing detergent such as dish liquid or Simple Green on an abrasive (Green or Maroon) Scotchbrite pad. Get the grip wet and scrub as hard as you can. The Scotchbrite pad is the key element because it scrubs down into the rubber and removes the oils along with a microscopic layer of rubber itself. Using a brush or chemicals on the grip alone are not as effective as the soapy scotchbrite scrubdown method. MMC's don't hold up to this method because they have too much paint on the outside surface.

I'm moving to the Lamkin Z5's from the NDMC.

I like the textures of NDMC but like most everyone states, they don't last under heavy use and are expensive to replace; especially if you went with the Align. I hit the range 2-3 times a week and have been replacing the NDMC's at least half way through the year. Like Nessism says, cleaning grips will make them last a lot longer. I prefer using dish soap and scrub pad to get the oils and debris out. Give a good firm rub down with a terry towel when you're done to get the tackiness back.

I'm a big fan of the Lamkin UTx and the Crossline grip. I have a Crossline on my driver, and the UTx iron, wood, or hybrid. Both last a long time, and seem to feel better with use. I've never had issues with either in humid conditions.

30 rounds? I’m on 40 with my ndmc’s and they have plenty of life. Are you cleaning them?

Always felt MCCs don’t take on oils/sweat as well as other grips. The white ones are usually the best though. But they are turn hard quickly on the bottom half. I would recommend just some UTx like others have said you can usually find them for a pretty good price.

just re-gripped my entire set with the Golf Pride 360 Tour Velvets, i had never tried it until i got my new Ping driver and i loved the feel of the grip much more than the New Decades ....guess it's a personal preference

Yes, I've been cleaning them. But I live in Minnesota (one day snow, next day 100 degrees). So playing once a week and practicing once or twice a week leads to quick wear with the changing weather conditions.

Recently got some ping 5L 360 grips and am very impressed. Seem to be made from a good quality rubber and have decent wet grip too. Came from NDMC for the same reason. Grips seem very overpriced...for genuine ones anyway

I also made the switch to a lower cost option once my NDMC's wore out. I went with Lankin utx cord's which were fantastic for me, great grip and cord feel without being overly harsh. Unfortunately, those are harder to come by now so when I switched irons I ended up with tour velvet 360s. To my surprise, they are actually a pretty solid grip, much more so than standard tour velvet. You may want to give one a try, in the end you'll only be out a few bonediddlies.

I've been playing lamkin Crosslines for the last 10 years. I've tried to go with the NDMC's, but as others have mentioned they just don't last as long as my lamkins.

I moved to the Lamkin Z5's which can be had for $2.99 right now

I like the fact that they are also '2 piece' grips where I have a tactile place to put my thumb showing myself I have the proper grip.

I follow Chris Trott and look at tour pros grip choices. Noticed a lot of GP TV 58R. I always used 60R but tried the 58R and will probably stick with it moving forward. Feels slightly larger with a softer feel. I think the walls on the 58 are a little thicker than the 60? Whatever it is, I really like it. Also added a layer of masking tape to the irons so they are the same thickness as my woods. All my grips are now the exact same thickness.
