Well, its only 3 weeks away. We usually talk about the Masters for months. lol.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Tiger was saving for Pebble. This course fits his game as good as any US Open course is going to at his age and fitness. He does need to sharpen his game up before Pebble, though, and if there is something more wrong physically than he's leading on, it won't matter. But, if his irons are on like they have been much of the last 12 months, he'll be in prime position to make a run.

Hole 1: No driver (par 4)

Hole 2: Driver (long par 4....plays as par 5 for public)

Hole 3: Driver not required (sharp dogleg left, 3W is sufficient, pending wind)

Hole 4: No driver (very short par 4, too long to reach with driver for Tiger)

Hole 5: Par 3

Hole 6: Driver (par 5. Tee shot is very downhill and driver is not needed unless going for it in two, but the risk is worth the reward)

Hole 7: Par 3

Hole 8: No driver (par 4, long iron tee shot with forced layup

Hole 9: Driver (long par 4, plays downhill from tee, wind may allow for 3 wood if helping)

Hole 10: Driver (long par 4, plays downhill from tee, wind may allow for 3 wood if helping)

Hole 11: No driver (short par 4, long iron or fairway wood tee shot up hill)

Hole 12: Par 3

Hole 13: Driver not required (shortish par 4)

Hole 14: Driver (par 5)

Hole 15: Driver not required (shortish par 4)

Hole 16: Driver not required (shortish par 4)

Hole 17: Par 3

Hole 18: Driver (par 5)

There are only 3 par fours that require driver for Tiger in normal conditions. Pebble's defense is their abnormally small greens, and that defense is a good one. If Tiger's iron game is on and his short game is above average, he's going to contend. The best part is, none of the drivers that Tiger will have to hit will force him to hit a draw, his biggest weakness with the driver, with the exception of maybe 18. But, he's not having to bend the ball around anything and can still hit his little squeeze fade. If he hits it in the right rough, it's a par 5 still at least.

These odds on Tiger are ridiculous. If at the age of 43 poeple still think he’s going to contend as consistently as he used to they are delusional. I was as excited about him winning at Augusta as anyone but I also live in the real world. The other thing that’s been lost in all of this is his familiarity with Augusta, and the fact that it’s one of those courses that has “horses” who are uniquely suited for it, and he’s obviously one of them. Just like Jack, Arnold, and Mickelson. A win at Augusta doesn’t necessarily translate to consistent success everywhere else, ESPECIALLY at 43 years of age and with a fragile body.

Doesn’t mean I’m not rooting for him, but there isn’t a chance on earth I would take that bet, including if he won at The Memorial.

Dude, that’s a good pick! 100 to 1 makes it worth while.

I agree from odds standpoint. Lack of needing driver to be great is a big plus for him. Brooks and DJ are clearly better than everyone else at this time but Pebble does not give them a huge advantage. A ball striker has a great shot here and I believe it is the only major that is wide open this year. Brooks wins @ portrush....

I'm also in the pray for Phil camp. Feel like this is probably his last shot (the next two courses don't look great for him and eventually age is going to catch-up).

Tiger's driving actually seems OK this year. He doesn't have the advantage that he used to have or that some have today (Koepka, DJ, Rory, etc, which will be negated somewhat at Pebble). But it doesn't seem like a big liability like it is for Phil. Maybe Phil can bring back the 3 Deep and 980 F 4 wood for a week and get it in play.
