Cobra F-Max Superlite Hybrid Issues

Recommended Posts

Looking for some suggestions. I took my son to a Cobra Demo Days a few weeks ago at a nearby coarse. He's been playing the F8 Junior Driver since last season so I thought he could try out some hybrids. He tried the F9 Hybrid and Ladies F9 and found them to be a little heavy. He then tried the Ladies F-MAX Superlite and did much better. The ball flight looked better and we noticed a decent distance gain over his US Kids UL 57 Hybrid. Based on the positive results, I had F-MAX Superlite 4H delivered to the club -1" in length. The pro took an additional inch off of the shaft length and installed the grip. We head out to play yesterday morning and it's one rope hook after another. It was nothing like we saw during the demo. He finally had a nice couple of shots later in the round but the clubface was very open. His driver has a 41G Cobra Junior shaft and I am wondering if the 50g shaft could be causing the issue. Any input is appreciated.

The 41G Cobra Shaft is not actually 41g. It's 41" long. Here are the specs.

Regarding your junior's shots, is the new club the same shaft as from the demo days? Also, I have found for my junior with hybrid that you need to setup to the ball with the ball slightly forward of center by about 1 ball width/length. Otherwise, he would get hooks like crazy. Note: we don't play a hybrid club anymore (use 5-iron or 5W at 19* now).

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Sorry about that. His is the 39" which is 46g. He's short for a 11 year old (takes after his mother). It's the same shaft from the Demo Day. When his timing is right it looks beautiful so we will give it some time. He hit his US Kids UL well but it looked like he was lacking in distance which proved to be true at Demo day.

Adult club cut down only 2" will be too long in a 57 set.

Also if he's Ultralite in the iron and then a cut-down adult shaft hybrid, that's a HUGE swing weight change.

Actually the 4H length is 38.75". Cut down 2" and should be 36.75". The US KIDS TS3-57 Hybrid length is 36" so he is close. You are correct about the weight but the Demo Day gave me a false sense of hope I believe. I had wanted to get him a fairway wood also so in hindsight I probably should have went with the Ping Prodi-g Fairway and Hybrid and upgrade at the next growth spurt. The F-MAX Hybrid's loft is close to the Prodi-g Fairway wood which lead to some confusion on which direction to go in addition to the OE vs. Junior club debate.

Specs for TS3-57 4 Hybrid is 35.25", which means the cobra is 1.5" too long. That cobra is closer to a TS3-60 hybrid length of 37".

https://www.uskidsgolf.com/shop/left-hand-ts3-57-4-hybrid-v10-graphite-shaft

https://www.uskidsgolf.com/shop/ts3-60-4-hybrid-v5-graphite-shaft

If he can swing a longer club it wouldn't matter, but the length and/or the weight is suspect...

Interesting. I only see the TS3-57 3H when I look on US Kids's site [https://uskidsgolf.com/shop/ts3-57-3-hybrid-v10-graphite-shaft](https://www.uskidsgolf.com/shop/ts3-57-3-hybrid-v10-graphite-shaft "https://uskidsgolf.com/shop/ts3-57-3-hybrid-v10-graphite-shaft"). It's a 22 degrees loft and 36" length according to US Kid's where as the Cobra 4H is a 23. I have been using these numbers for comparision.

The TS3 Launch Hybrid features a thin crown and face, which provides maximum ball speed. The repositioned Center of Gravity helps increase forgiveness on off-center hits, and creates optimal launch conditions.

Features:

Optimal Height Range 57 in. to 60 in.

v10 model (10% lighter club heads than adult)

17-4 Stainless Steel club head

22 degree loft

J-Flex Graphite Shaft frequency matched and spined

36 in. finished club length

Low flex point for optimal ball flight

Appropriate sized grips (replacements available)

Headcover included

It's the lie issue. Try a Ping G410 and adjust to the flat setting. In all likely-hood, no more hooks. I haven't seen the specs on the F-Max, but likely way too upright.
