Ways to make a shaft heavier?

I can't seem to like anything but a heavy iron shaft.....I have two identical 7 irons, one with an s300 and one with a c-taper 120....Same length and swing weight pretty close to the same.....Any ideas on how to make the c-taper have that heavy feel that the s300 has.....I was considering putting in a sensicore insert which would add 4 grams of weight to the shaft. I even considered using two of them......Any ideas how to make the shaft feel heavier...….the static weight of the club with the s300 is about 8 or 9 grams heavier.

you could do sensicore - but, are you talking OVERALL weight or, swingweight?

i think what you might be feeling is the difference in profile as well - the kbs will feel a bit smoother so, maybe the 'heavier' feel is a bit more rigidity as well. if you want a bit more weight, perhaps one of those counter weights that you push down to the middle of the shaft used in putters? would think they might slide down tho over time.

You can test with lead tape running length wise, from just below the grip , towards the

head of the club. If you find the extra static weight improves feel , pull and weigh the tape

then spiral wrap lead tape around the straw section of a Sensicore insert , remove grip ,

and shove it down the shaft . How far down the shaft can also adjust shaft balance , further

down will slightly increase swingweight as well. I have done this to all the fwy and hybrid

shafts in my signature. They are all former driver and fwy shafts that I have moved into

the fwys and hybrids , ( age and loss of speed reasons). If you look at the clubs in my

signature , you will see that I also added @15 grams of weight to my wedge shafts using

heat shrink tube. It weighs @ .5 grams per inch. I wanted a heavier feel, full stealth look.

Over all weight.....I guess some are sensitive to different things than others.....I have been trying to go to lighter shafts for years....Maybe I just don't give them enough time to adjust......An s300 with a SW of D2, feels heavier to me than a 115 gram shaft at D4

experiment with lead tape, weight it, then put the centre of the tape on the balance point of the club down the back to maintain the swing weight. ie. (6inch of tape would have 3 inch below and 3 inch above the balance point)

best thing about lead tape is that you can experiment and its not permanent. could play around with counter balancing and all sorts if you were so inclined (bit of weight up by the grip and a bit down by the hosel, so somewhere in between).

Have a play and find out what works for you.

Have you got any photos, that sounds interesting. Does the heat shrink effect the feel of the shaft and reduce the vibrations further or is it just weight and aesthetic

When we use the CLUBs Balance point, we move SW value MORE (higher) than if we added the weight on the SHAFTS BP who is higher up vs the CLUBs BP, so when we want to simulate or copy a higher SHAFT wgt, we should use the SHAFTs BP and that point is for most shafts about the middle of it, (exceptions for shafts like DG SL who is "tip heavy", and shafts who is Counter balanced.)

Expanding on what Howard said, part of what you may be sensing is that dynamic gold are very tip heavier and c-tapers, and for that matter ALL KBS shafts, have a high balance point. KBS and Dynamic gold feel extremely different to me even at the same flex and swingweight.

I do think Dual sensicores or sensicores wrapped with lead tape is an interesting experiment. I’ve used sensicores in all my clubs for as long as they’ve been around. Adding a touch of weight to the high middle of the shaft doesn’t really change the balance or “weight feel”. Using two and jamming one all the way down as far as you can get it and then stacking the next right on top of it may indeed cause the change you want. One giant problem. ...they don’t make sensicores anymore. I have 2 dozen hoarded away in my basement but they arent for sale. Sorry.

Killed two birds with one stone...I have always played my wedges heavy , and after being

able to adjust to lighter shafts in my irons , thought I was ready for lighter wedges too.

Had tempo issues , and the shrink tube fixed it , bumping shaft weight up to what was

familiar to me ......the Recoils in them already gave them a soft feel , hard to say if the

shrink tube further reduced any vibration......But they do look cool......
