Things I can do to AID my FADE!?

Recommended Posts

I play a nice 2-4 yard fade on 80% of my drives. It's usually very reliable and sometimes I'll play a round where I don't miss a fairway with it. I do have a consistent miss, though (I know having a one way miss is a good thing but...)

My miss is a bleeder which adds 10-15ish yards of fade to the drive and kills the distance by a good 20 yards. I have looked at videos of my swings where the drives end up perfect, and swings where the extra fade comes in to play and I cannot tell a difference between the swings.

My swing speed is anywhere from 105 smooth to 110 when the fairways open up a bit.

My set up is as follows. Ping G400 10 degrees. Kuro Kage 60g regular shaft with ONE INCH CUT OFF(got regular shaft to accommodate for the inch being cut off - makes it more stiff when shortened.)

I have thought to maybe add lead tape to the head, or to get a heavier/stiffer shaft but i am concerned the heavier shaft may make me MORE prone to the left bleeders. I experimented with a buddy's 80g extra stiff shaft and that turned my fade into a slide and my draw into a straight ball. Maybe a 70g stiff will do the trick?

Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance y'all

meant it as "that's the shot I play 80% of the time when I'm using driver", not that it works 80% of the time. Worded it kind of weirdly I guess now that I read it back. I would say it works over half of the time, and occasionally I don't miss a fairway with it throughout a round when I pull it out.

I also play a fade almost exclusively off the tee. When I'm hitting bleeders, its almost always because I am not releasing through the ball ("holding it off" a bit, I suppose you could say) , so the face is staying a little more open than it should. It probably wouldn't really be very visible on video as a difference in the swing. When I'm swinging well, I'm releasing fully, but still hitting a fade. Funny how confidence plays into this. Once you hit one big slice, its easy to get tentative, which makes it even more likely that you won't fully release the clubhead.

That's interesting. You make a good point when you bring up being tentative. When the slices happen it seems like they take a bit for me to correct because I'm nervous every drive will just be another slice. I will put emphasis on fully releasing if it creeps back again. Thanks Dave

Could be you are coming slightly over the top on the good ones, and then a little over the top with an open face on the bad ones.

Ok. Either way, post a video if you actually want help. Without a video, it’s a guessing game

I play a fade all the time and like you my miss is a 10 - 15 yard ugly Word not allowed slice. I will probably hit the bad shot maybe twice a round with the driver and a couple as well with the irons. Don't do it too often but when I do it frustrates me to no end. Anyway mine is caused by what I call "alligator arms". I never get my arms extended through the shot and follow through, causing me to swipe across the ball. Like a few of the post above I don't think its an equipment issue. If you can't see the difference in your swing post up here and I'm sure one of the very knowledgeable swing gurus here will pick up on it.
