epic flash knockoffs.

It is getting really hard, if not almost impossible to tell via a picture. you have to have it in hand and compare it to one in a legit store. Then side by side the very small errors can be found. I would say if it is on ebay, and it is a "good deal" to move along.

Only buy on ebay if refunds are accepted

Buy from someone with good reviews.

Look for actual pictures--dont buy an item with stock pictures.

Usually something used means its real.

And finally if/when you get it, put a magnet against it. A magnet will not magnetize to titanium (real). It will stick to a fake driver.

I think the Epic Flash would be hard to knockoff. And i wonder if the advancements in driver aesthetics are dissuading counterfeiters.

Ive yet to see a newer driver that I can look at on eBay and say that its fake.

here are a couple pics that I posted a few weeks ago of a Titleist driver that came into the store that was fake. Just looking at it I could not tell. It was only swinging it, and holding it next to one I knew was real I could determine the fake.

It looked legit, I doubt it was. i do not buy anything new off ebay anymore. If it is used or a few years old and the seller has lots and lots of positive reviews. Then maybe.

one way to safe is ask for the serial number and contact the company to confirm it is a sequence on record. If not, then do not buy it.

They have 3 methods of counterfeiting:

1. They use a 3D scanner and then build the tooling based on that, That’s why you will see a lot that are bigger than the real ones.

2. They get a worker that is either leaving or doesn’t care to sneak out the wax or slurry mold, they used to seal the tooling but all the factories have metal detectors now. That’s why at the factories all the workers wear these really tight shorts so they can’t steal them.

3. They steal the actual CAD file or they rebuild their own models.

The good news is that most drivers now how carbonfiber that is so costly to make and as raw material that they won’t counterfeit that part so it’s easy to tell. They usually use a fake decal laminate. The real cf that is used is woven and pressed 8k. The counterfeits can’t match the graphics, they have to eye them they don’t have the vector files from the ID guys and they can’t copy the acoustics most drivers have features in them to mod the acoustic that is secret sauce.

I spent a lot of time when I was in the industry trying to make designs that can’t be copied, it never worked they always try. But PayPal is good at refunds...

I have some epic knockoff stories... Its kinda an inside joke in the industry. The returns we used to get where people were going ballistic about a club sucking then comes to find out they bought it off ebay and it's not even ours. Or when we had a set of irons that were in prototyping stage there was already a knockoff we didn't even release them yet lol

Really good info! If you're inclined, I'd love to see you start a thread about some of the stories you came across. This information is really valuable.
