Holding Clubface Square Throughout Swing?

Earlier this year, I saw a short player special during one of the spring tournaments wherein a shorter player explained that he keeps his wrists locked throughout the entire swing to eliminate club face rotation. I think his point was that it allowed him to swing as hard as possible while minimizing directional inconsistency. I can’t remember his name or find the video - so maybe someone can help with that.

I decided to transfer that idea to my swing because I’d been struggling with squaring the club face. Now, I basically preset my lag with a forward press trigger and try to lock my wrist angles and club face throughout the swing. The results have been varied, but at the very least, it has allowed me to focus on grooving the other aspects (hip turn, body segment synchronization, etc.) while keeping that variable somewhat constant. I know it can lead to some problems with wrist c0ck, swing path, but:

Does anyone else use this swing feel/thought? Has anyone tried it and moved on? Any info?

Well, face orientation is of course one big variable in the swing. I tend to do what you are suggesting, although my key is to keep the back of my lead wrist aimed at the inside back of the ball. Then there's the "level" variable, by which I mean spine angle, and that is a killer for me. I need to try to stay in my spine tilt until after the ball is struck (I realize swing flaws can make this almost impossible, but in theory that's what you want to do). I'm sure there are at least a couple more variables (parameters) to the swing that need to be considered as well. But to answer your question directly, yes, I do that sort of thing and find it helps because my tendency is to move everything too much, in both the back and down swing.

In fact, I think Mike Malaska has a video in which he talks about putting three dots on the clubface and, I believe, the back of the ball and then concentrating on making them meet at the bottom of the swing. It's not "keeping the club face square throughout the swing", but it's the same idea, at least at impact.

Occasionally ill get into a flippy mode with driver and try to hold it off to prevent the snap hook. Dont like to do it but when the flip starts to creep in, its a bandaid that works for a while till I get to the range to fix it.

It restricts the range of motion in your forearms.

Taking a guess here, but are you talking about Andrew Landry? He had a segment during a golf tournament a few months ago. This may be the one you're referring to.
