Beefy Utility/driving iron?

Looking for suggestions for a beefy utility/driving iron. Think G400 Crossover, I really like the look & performance of this club but want something around 17 degrees and they don´t offer one. Newer G410 is a little two iron like.

Anyone have any suggestions? Doesn´t need to be a current club, past 5 years or so is fine. Anyone hit the Tour Edge CBX Iron-Wood? Looks like it may fit the bill.

Thanks!

The Srixon ZU series is awesome. I have the ZU65 in 2 iron (18*) and the 3 iron (20*). Incredible club. The new version which is almost identical is the ZU85. Ridiculously easy to hit for a long iron. I've also used the G400 crossover. I like it but prefer the Srixon. I found that if you hit the Ping slightly high in the face (maybe off the tee) you get this weird dead shot that travels about 80 yards low and soft. It goes nowhere. But it is a great club if you hit it properly.

Thanks, I’ve hit the Srixon and just didn’t love it. Felt dead, maybe it was the shaft.

Anyone hit the Gapr mid? Looks a little thicker at address.

They are tough to find, but check out the PING Rapture driving iron. It's about 6 years old, but the thing is just as easy to elevate and control off the deck as it is to hit rippers off the tee. I have owned the G400 Crossover, T-MB, and MMC Fli Hi 2 iron and the Rapture is by far the easiest to hit and most versatile.

The Mizunos are definitely beefy. Easier to find a 2-iron in the MP-H5 although the H4s pop up every now and then. Srixon U45/65/85 are a little less chunky.

Have a gapr mid for that reason can alter the lofts makes it a bit more versatile.

couldnt get on with the older ping crossover or the srixon u65 but both are good clubs , Indian not the arrow i think on that one , like others said find one that fits your eye

lots to test

Ping would bend the original crossovers (G) 1.5 degrees strong. I'm not sure on the G400 but if so this could get you to 17.5 degrees.

If you don't mind something larger, the original Callaway X-Utility or X-Prototype models are probably the way to go. They are bulky, but they out-perform a lot of their competitors. They are as forgiving and powerful as any driving iron I've ever hit.

Cobra F9 4i (Fowler) is pretty solid. I have one with a lightweight steel shaft and its super easy to hit. Its a little chunky for my taste but as I said, super easy to hit.

Just picked a 790 2 iron... feels good and flies far but still getting used to offset is all

Edit: not gettin used to the offset so thinkin its out of bag soon. when placed on mat the natural weight makes it really closed which I dont like at all... gets hooky.... Now I need a long iron with less offset

Can't figure how to like my own posts

Check out the Adams Dhy 18* - Has the Beffy iron look, Black face this is an awesome club I had it n my bag for years just got replaced with the 410 crossover but I am not getting rid of it. You can find them pretty cheap these days I had the Matrix shaft in mine.

I never knew but the proto model has a 16* here is a new head only someone should snap this up.....

I was going to say the same. I still have mine from 1999. 17° with a true temper steel shaft. Low bullets.

TEE CB Pro H comes in 18 and they are wonderful. The MMC 18 is pretty great too. I have one that is around 16 and is easy to elevate still.

I'm in the market for one of these as well... I liked the GAPR a ton, but want to try it with a heavier shaft... The Crossover felt hollow to me, even though I hit it well.

I'm going to try out some other options... might buy something off EBAY for craps and grins.

I would say the OG TM UDI is my favorite. Super hot, bulky without being a hybrid and feels great. I'm a fan of the old Adams Idea Pro Black/9031 mini/Pro Mini if you want something bulkier but still not hybrid big.

Just wondering--What are you using it for primarily? Off the tee? deck? all-around-utility?

I'm actually about to start a "battle of the utilities" with the 18-20* driving irons I have laying around. I've lately been using an MP-H5 2 iron, love the feel and it's plenty chunky enough, but not sure how forgiving it is contact wise. Almost impossible for me to hook, but if I catch it just a bit high on the face or toe, and it'll be lucky to go 125 yards. I've been hanging onto my Adams Dhy 18* (had a 21* that I probably should've locked away in a vault but a shaft to bag gapping led me to going to 18). I'm not crazy about the White Tie shaft, but love having the forgiveness of bulge and roll in a low traj club. The last competitor is an old Nike Pro Combo Forged Utility at 20* that I randomly found at a Play it Again for $20, and after reshafting with a PX 6.0 steel shaft, it is an absolute missile. Only issue is that it has a ton of offset, but the feel and performance are awesome.
