Found Out Why I've Been Struggling to Walk 18

One reason, anyway. MRI shows a torn meniscus in my knee. This is the same knee with an alograft ACL replacement from about 6 years ago. Probably will get this fixed. Deciding to make some health and habit changes and target my arthritis and inflammation, and shed some weight. Don't let your kids play football...

Thanks for the input. I am lined up to meet with the surgeon who did my ACL replacement. He's very good. This will be a discussion of risk/reward, etc. I'm early 50s so I'm not overly eager to get the replacement yet, based on what I understand of them. I can still swing the clubs and want to improve that ability vs restricting it. We'll see...

Nope. I will eventually get a total replacement - just not yet. Had a good visit with the doc. I DO have a theory that lots of high-quality hoppy beer lowers blood pressure, though. This is based on my last 2 years of research that has resulted in me having very low blood pressure...hehe....

That's interesting. A few years ago I had terrible knee pain. I went to an orthopedic and it was a torn meniscus. He advised against surgery because he was worried that I also had arthritis and as you described, the surgery would make the pain much worse. I limped around for a year and a half. I ended up going to a second doctor and he immediately said that I needed the surgery. He said he understands what the first doctor feared about the pain getting worse but he saw no signs of arthritis. I had the surgery and have been pain free since. Not sure why the first doctor thought I had arthritis.

I had this same thing a couple of years ago...though my knee was bad from ice hockey. Surgery was pretty simple and I was back to making full swings after about eight or so weeks.

Luckily I can still make a good swing. It's the walking that's getting me. I don't feel like an old guy...go figure. 52 now.

Oy, I'm 33. I was 31 when I had my knee done. Making a swing was okay if I was riding the round in a cart, but I would start getting a little twinge around the 15th hole. Walking the round was just out of the question.

With approval from a doctor,

Build your muscles around your joints. By 50, your quads and gluts and hamstrings are going to zero if you don’t do something to build back muscle mass. To protect the joint from taking all the stress.

Not just knees, shoulders too.

Fight with everything you got. Find the right plan for you.

Agree,, I've had 5 surgeries on my right knee, mostly meniscus/scar tissue removal (long story). My most recent surgery was last July and I am already having issues again. Ugh.. I am waiting til winter break to have it looked at again. I am still really mobile and can't afford the recovery time right now. So, I am building strength and am managing it better.

Edit to add that I am 54
