Punta Cana golf recommendations, anyone?

Hello all,

coming over from Scotland for a week in July 'for vacation, wondering if any other WRXers have experience playing down there and could recommend a course?

Had a good look online at prices etc, just looking for some extra details.

Punta Espada, Corales and La Cana are highly regarded in the Punta Cana region itself. La Romana at the south end of the island is the home of the Teeth of the Dog course, one of the best I've ever played. Worth the trip down there.

I don't think I'd get too worked up over a few isolated incidents. Probably wouldn't stay at the Bahia Principe, though.

Punta Espada. The best

Take the drive to The Teeth, but watch the caddies and your wallet.. Mine lifted $400 from wifes backpack that was in rear of cart.. they ride on back of cart.. Use the TSA cable lock to secure the zippers together.. He got the cash at the turn when we hit the head!

It's a lot safer than Detroit, St Louis, Oakland, Newark, Philly and many other US cities.

I played the courses in and around Casa de Campo three years ago and plan to play the Punta Cana area courses in January. I would make the drive to play Teeth of the Dog. Teeth and Punta Espada are the #1 and #2 courses in all of the Caribbean.

We rented cars and drove all around the area and never felt unsafe. We never had any theft or other incidents that would make us uncomfortable. I felt safer there than I would be driving in Detroit, St Louis or Oakland.

The recent tourist deaths are very isolated and the media tends to overblow such events. More than six million tourists visit the DR every year, so it is inevitable that there will be a few bad situations.

In 2017 the murder rate in the DR was 14.9. That is lower than 20 - 30 US cities including Buffalo, Oakland, Atlanta, Washington, Tulsa, Pittsburgh, Chicago, etc.

You are in for a treat, DR and punta cana (and its nearby region) has awesome golf.

Punta Espada is an amazing track. Probably the hardest and best maintained course ive played in a long time (granted, i went right after a pga tour stop)

Corales is awesome as well, very difficult and always in good conditions.

Ibersostar Bavaro has a few tracks and some get latin pga stops i think but its "lesser" than the two mentioned above.

If you want to drive a little bit, Casa de Campo has Teeth of the Dog and Dye Four, both pete dye and both incredible. Teeth of the dog is the famed one, but dye four is trully incredible and you get some awesome vistas although alot less oceanside than its more famous brother. They just had the latin american amateur championship at teeth of the dog for reference.

Casa de Campo is probably the most expensive, but i felt it was worth the drive from Punta Cana to play there. I would even drive just to play due four because the vistas overlook beautiful landscape.

If you dont have a budget and are flexible, Punta Espada and Corales on repeat in Punta Cana and the day trip to Casa de Campo (maybe 1 hour from punta cana in a pretty good highway) for Teeth of the Dog and Dye Four.

Enjoy and be sure to drink plenty of "presidente" beer and "brugal" rum.
