I will be visiting my daughter in the Czech Rebublic in Aug and will be bringing my clubs. If there is anyone on GOLFWRX in that area, please let me know and perhaps we can set up a tee time. I will be there from 11-24 Aug

I got back from Ostrava a few weeks ago. While there, I managed to get 5 rounds in. Three at Celadna, and two at Silherovice. Celadna is a 36 hole layout with one course built into the hills (designed by Miguel Angel Jimenez). They call this course the old course, it was built in 2003. This is by far the better of the two layouts. They did play a few European Tour events a few years ago using the back nines of both course. This is an option and is called the European course.

**Celadna** (old course). features very large elevation changes. I had no problem walking the course but most people rode carts. The fairways are wide and offer a fair amount of room if you spray it a bit. The greens are huge with many having 2-3 large tiers, effectively making it like three greens on each whole. I saw almost 7 feet of elevation change between tiers on some greens. Makes for fun putting.

**Celadna** (new course) - built primarily from farmland. It is relatively flat and I found it to be a bit boring, especially the front nine. The back nine moves into the hills and is quite a bit better. The greens are also quite large but mostly flat with subtle breaks.

I much preferred the old course and of the two that is the one I would play again.

Silherovice is totally different. It is built on the grounds of the former Rothschild estate. It was opened in 1968 which coincied with the Russians taking control of the region. As you can imagine, golf was not something the Russian government viewed with aby favour in that era. My understanding is that the course was not well looked after for almost 40 years and is just now starting to be revitalized. With over 40 years of neglect, the trees have grown some are are huge, which accuracy and the ability to work the ball a neccesity. Although the condition of the course is not on par with Celadna, it was quite a bit more fun to play. I would definitely play there again of I went back to the region.
