Pebble Beach looks incredible

I’m not sure why - maybe because better TV than for last Open at Pebble, maybe because Pebble in January isn’t the whole focus, maybe because of all the rain this winter and everything is so green - but man PB looks great. And it’s $585. Pricey.

Ok so which golf splurge would you prefer - Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay or the Bandon courses?

You can ride a cart for $45 I think. So $625 per.

So forget the price part of it. Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay vs 3 Bandon courses. Which do you want to play more? I played Pebble 25 yrs ago and wasn’t wowed but yesterday wowed me on TV.

Pebbles ocean holes are spectacular . Both properties have strengths but, I'm not for urban sprawl and encroachment. Bandon ya look North, South and East and there's nothin' but golf

I played Pebble last fall.

Is it worth the $700 (caddie + tip) if you compare golfing value per $$ to Bandon? No.

Am I glad I forked out the money and played it? You bet. It's not like I'm going there every week and for a one time splurge it's absolutely worth it.

in 1989 my mom and dad spent their first retirement February in Carmel. I went out to visit from NY State. We looked into Pebble and it was $350 then. My dad offered to spring for it, but I said "I'll have no fun knowing you paid $700 for a round of golf"....we played other nice places that were more reasonable, but we did walk the beach to the course and walked around a bit. A good walk, not spoiled.

FORE RIGHT!!!!

The better question is who will pay it? Apparently plenty since they keep raising the prices. The amount of wealth in this area is staggering. If you think that is crazy, check this out.

Been to CA twice, San Fran and LA area, yes beautiful. But the rich and their tax the poor game to enrich themselves even more is too much for me to swallow. No idea how anyone that works for a living can live there.

Seems like you should be the authority based on sample size alone.

So you think my dollar will go farther in CA than TX? Is this knowledge only acquired by living there 20 plus years? What are you trying to say?

That's not what I said, and it's not what you asserted.

I will say: I work for a living, and I live here, so maybe I'm your miracle!

Haha, alright, man. It's not for you. I get it. No big deal.

Nah, he said, "No idea how anyone that works for a living can live there." He's been to CA twice, after all, so I would listen to him if I were you.

I was in San Jose for my kids National Hockey tournament. Early one morning I drove down to Pebble. I will say I was always one of those that said. Eh. Overrated I'll never pay that much to play. Having never been there made my thoughts kinda stupid.

Now after been and seen the area. The water views are stunning. Even on a cloudy drizzling day. I know only a handful or so are on the water I would still consider paying the bucks to play it. My only concern is the weather. I would hate to pay all that money and have the weather be aweful.

Yes, that would suck. When I played I was on a trip to Monterey and didn't have an advance time booked. The forecast for the Monday was perfect so I called the day before and got the last "guaranteed to finish" tee time. We teed off on 18 just as the sun was hitting the horizon and holed out about 5 minutes after sunset.

The crazy part is that I played with some guys who had tee times earlier in the week who had a reserved time that was over an hour later than mine. They were paying full rate.

I'll bet sunset walking up 18 is spectacular.

May I ask what the "twilight" rate was?

I have a few things I'm working on and then hope to sell. If it works out I'm taking the lady to Pebble. I'll hit the links she get pampered.
