A permanent home for the US Open?

We make PB the new home for the US Open. We cancel that annoying Pro Am. And no worries the PGA will still be rotating so they can take the better, former US Open courses.

Call me crazy, mentally challenged, insert your own adjective. But you have to admit Pebble rocked this year. It’s a wonderful US Open venue and we deserve to see it played with the world’s best yearly. And the views this time of year have just been stunning. Wouldn’t this just be sensational, looking forward to this every June?

So what say you? Am I right, am I right, or am I right?

While I love the theory (i.e. The Masters), it wouldn't work.

The USGA and the PGA has to spread the money around. With so many competing interests and the money involved, it almost has to move by requirement. To only support one venue would fail to draw national seasonal/local interest . As a spectator, I _will_ drive three hours to go to a tournament. But I _won't_ drive eight. Bring the mountain to Muhammad.

That being said, I would fully support a yearly _extra_ Major at Pebble Beach. Sort of like The Masters 2.0 . Beautiful, public, and challenging.

The Masters comes off as extremely exclusionary, and looks like a 'Members-Only' event. Granted, I will gladly give my left testicle to take my dad to the Masters before he's gone. But.......

A new major could be arranged as a pro-am with PGA players playing with web.com players in teams. Who knows?

I think it would lose its specialness if it were held every year. Augusta is a one-of-a-kind venue the players look forward to annually because of , in part, its restrictions on the fans. You wouldn't have the same restrictions at Pebble. And it wouldn't be a setup that, also unlike Augusta, that many of the players would figure out, with the high rough and shifting oceanic winds. The fans would look forward to having it there every year for sure, in my opinion, the players, not so much.

Not a fan of any of these assertions except canceling the pro-am, that idea was a home run.

I could see the PGA Championship settling in at a venue like Pebble Beach, but the US Open needs to move around to different parts of the country.

The Majors are special. If you add more, they become less special. Should they play the Ryder Cup every year? Should they hold the Olympics or the World Cup every year? When you've got something right, you leave it alone. More doesn't always mean better.

The Masters is special because it’s a beautiful course and the familiarity of it. Everyone recognizes the marquee holes and the history behind them. Pebble played yearly would develop the same familiarity. The natural beauty is already there and I think June is the perfect month for that time of year. Also the morning coolness and the dew is something weather wise on par with the Masters and Open. I really enjoy that morning segment with the broadcasters overlooking the bay with their morning cup. It just has that natural vacation feel. Where else can you duplicate that in June? Sure not in Tulsa.

Then the contrast of an open, more inviting field and sponsorship of the US Open as opposed to the stuffiness and snobbery of the Masters. So this has the possibility of making the US Open the main event of golf majors. I could see this becoming the most interesting and anticipated of the 4 majors. The Masters elites would probably not like this. Haha.

The Masters stays at Augusta National because the club holds the tournament and permits it to exist.

Gvogel has it exactly right, it's a national championship so it should rotate around the nation.

Pebble Beach also hosts other events besides the former Crosby Pro-Am.

Besides, the USGA would probably have to buy the course to get the US Open there every year and I don't think they have the dollars.

If the USGA did limit the US Open to one course, it would be Pebble Beach. But I don't think they ever will.

The current once a decade schedule seems to work well.
