Sand Valley and ...?

We did Erin Hills and Kohler already and want to do Sand Valley but wanted to know if there was anywhere else to consider going/staying besides SV? We’d likely fly into/out of Milwaukee or even Minneapolis

Lawsonia, Lake Arrowhead, sentry world, wild rock.

Lake Arrowhead is literally right down the street, and Sentry World pretty close as well and highly rated. Lawsonia is supposed to be great also, but I know nothing about it.

In order of preference, Lawsonia, Wild Rock, Sentry World. Northern Bay Resort is 25 miles from Sand Valley. It has a number of replica holes, including Sawgrass #17, and Bay Hill #18. If you're not up for a longer drive, it's a fun track.

If there's anyway you can swing it, Milwaukee CC is a must. Old school cool!

I would agree with this, but my personal preference might be Wild Rock slightly over Lawsonia. I just enjoy it more though that probably puts me in the minority around here. Either is well worth playing.

I'd go for wild Rock or Lawsonia. If you are going to stay, there's not much to do by Lawsonia. Knuths Brewing is a nice place. WR in the Dells, although I hate the Dells, there are tons of restaurant options, etc. If that's important. I'd have no problem looping twice at either if 36 is in the cards, have done it several times as they are my favorite two courses in the state! Also if having a 2nd course option is important, lawsonia has woodlands which is a good option, but I cannot bring myself to play it when the links is an option, I like it that much. Dells has Trappers and N. Bay. Have not played Trappers in years, but has 27, in good condition. N. Bay I played a few weeks ago. Although some of the replica holes are cool, there are several holes that are just stinkers IMO. Fairways are like the first cut, tee boxes are in poor condition, but the greens were very good and rolled true!

I used to enjoy Northern Bay, though you are correct that some of the holes just seem to be thrown in amongst the replicas. If the conditioning has gone downhill it might not be worth it. Up in that same general area I did enjoy the Lake Arrowhead courses when I played them but it's been 6-7 years.

Played LA Pines this year and enjoyed it, greens were outstanding. No outstanding holes, but lots of good holes.

Both tracks at arrowhead offer a quality round of golf. The holes are all fair, and the greens roll very true. If you can play both I would do it, but if you can only play one I would play the pines. If you are looking to plan a sand valley trip with a couple of extra courses I would do the following: schedule your rounds at sand valley first to figure out when you wish to play there. Once that is set up look to fit in some rounds at arrowhead. You can tee off pretty late (5pm) and get 18 in with ease because it is usually empty late in the day. It’s nice because it is less than a 5 minute drive from sand valley if you are staying there. I would make a day trip up to sentryworld in Stevens point. It’s about an hour drive from sand valley, but it is a great play. You can pick whatever courses you’d like, but I would pick lake arrowhead and sentry to compliment your sand valley experience.

I live 10 minuted from lawsonia. Links is in great shape right now. Just had a tournament there saturday. Its a old links course and beautiful. Its not long and its cramped. No comparison so SV but its way cheaper. I have not payed Sentry World but a lot of guys talk about it. If you do play Lawsonia, be sure to stop by Mascoutin. 27 hole course in immaculate condition and difficult.
